Hard truth, it's pretty bad and Charmbracelet has better ballads. It's worse because she was literally trying to recreate Music Box 2.0 and gave us this.

I will not stand for Through The Rain slander here, especially comparing it to Hero which could've been sung by literally anyone in 1993. To understand the placement of Through The Rain in Mariah's career, you have to understand what was going on in her life at the time. She bodied that song and churned out one of the finest vocal performances of her career at a time when everyone thought she was all but cooked. She manifested the EOM comeback.

I  usually need to be in a certain mood when I listen to the song. And we both know for what I am talking about. It did help me.   

I had this on repeat back in 2020 when my anxiety was bad 

 

And then everyone in her discography rate hated it
