Was Bionic a respectable move in retrospect?

Featured Replies

Obviously it marked the end of Xtina’s commercial success but looking at it through a fresh pair of eyes in 2023, and not through 2010 stan glasses, was it respectable of Xtina to take such a left turn with her music? Did she flop with grace?

I’d argue that Lotus is her real worst album and the one we should make infinitely fun of

  • Y'all need to stop trying to make Bionic this "misunderstood classic" lol. It was a Heidi Montag quality hot garbaj at best.   Move on, just like the GP did 13 years ago.

sex for breakfast is the best song of all time that much i know

In the form that we got the album (which I FULLY enjoy) I wouldn't call it respectable. It felt like trying to keep up and failing.

I loved this album back in the days.

But her best songs are still Genie In A Bottle and Fighter.

Yeah it was just too ahead of it's time for certain people. But true music lovers get it and appreciate it.

She should've made Bionic a double disc album - put all the electronic songs on one CD (including the deluxe tracks) and the ballads on the other.

It was a great concept and the visuals were amazing but the inclusion of ballads really weakened the theme the album was trying to go for and made it quite bloated. Which is a shame because there are so many good songs on the album

Bionic is definitely Christina's most ambitious project to date and there is no denying that.

Yes, it's actually one of her bests albums. The problem is that it didn't had any kind of mass-appeal.

Yes, there were some quite interesting left field songs on it. It just required better curating, because it's all over the place

unfortunate turn of event when we've seen her bold creative authentic on stripped and b2b despite low key she followed the trend at times. was it respectable? it was too obvious on visuals and sound representing that not outstanding by its own, it should be titled as 'Xtina' or 'Diva' or 'Prima Donna' sort of that and focus market on her introspective self, not half baked electronic indie act. id say judge by album content itself, it was fine by her standard and respectable in this case, just all about bad rollout and behind the scene drama. :matty:

It all came down to single choices, IMO. She had been gone far too long to ride on her name alone. Had the lead with WooHoo / Monday Morning, it would have done well

It's a great pop album even if it has too many tracks. Not Myself Tonight was such an odd lead single choice though.

this. Especially after Back to Basics which was the perfect "crossover" album to focus on a less commercial sound moving forward.

No, i actually enjoy Bionic but it's all over the place, the deluxe is a little better but not

Eh it’s a misstep and misdirection for her tbh. In general public eye, Xtina is more known for her balladry / soulful rendition esp coming after Basic Instinct.

Sadly her new persona and vision of electropop can’t compete with more competent and catchy materials from Gaga and Kesha at the time :michael:

I think she should have been going into more soul/R&B project. At that time, that scene is going pretty well despite electropop domination, looking at artist like Amy Winehouse or Alicia Keys.

Not really. It needed better direction. Also, Christina and her team kept on trying the same single release strategy (sexy pop lead single followed by ballad), which was never really that effective in the first place, and becomes less effective every time they try it.

As long as Birds Of Prey and You Lost Me exists, the respect and appreciation for that album still exists. There’s several gems on it. Lotus however… ima have to pass on that one. :matty:

Not after the inclusion of **** like Desnudate, Not my career tonight, I hate boys etc, no.

If it were a short and sweet experimental album as she promised in 2008, yes it would be, judging from the deluxe material and songs like Elastic Love, Bionic etc
