No. Folklore/Evermore weren’t risky especially since fans have been begging for a folk sound from her since 2011’s Safe & Sound.

Was it though? Her music was already pop, with only her debut being a definitive country album, which even had pop versions of singles.

Musically? No, not really. But she has taken some risks with her image. 

 

Deciding to come back after what happened with Kim and Kanye with an album, era, and message that was so brazenly unapologetic about anything could've backfired on her. Yes, she had proven their narrative was false, but people still hated her en masse. She was risking further agitating an already loud group of people who disliked her by not only addressing the issue, but addressing it in a way that was absolutely devoid of any sort of remorse was an open invitation for more hatred to come her way. 

 

Even Madonna backed off a bit with what happened after Erotica, so for Taylor Swift of all people to come out swinging like that was ballsier than people seem to want to give her credit for.

All these are probably a bigger risk than whatever your basic favs have ever done but don't worry you can keep crying I guess is hard for OTHs in times like this

Nah, she always plans ahead so there are no risks involved, her peers should learn from her a few things 

 

There's nothing risky about reputation, she was venturing into trap/hip-hop influenced music so she was into 'new' territory, but yet it was released in the middle of the dominance of that kind of music so I wouldn't call it a 'risk', it was more trend chasing than other thing. The album still had plenty of safe pop songs and even a Blank Space 2.0

 

Folklore and Evermore were not risky at all. That kind of music was expected from an artist like her and her long time fans were begging for something like that. Also Folklore was released in the middle of the pandemic, so she basically had nothing to lose, if it remotely failed (which it didn't had a chance), she could have easily gotten back to the Lover/Reputation/1989 sphere once the pandemic finished, and call Folklore a 'gift for the fans' 

Yes, it was very risky to write and record very risky songs such as stay stay stay, bad blood, and you need to calm down. The last one certainly removed any of her remaining anti-lgbtq fanbase.

There is one thing ATRL has never managed to exmplain me after all the cries of basicness & simpleness taylor has. Why has no one else did something like her? It must be so easy I would assume someone should be close to her but that person seems to be nowhere to be found
