artists who are “ruling the charts” or “raking in numbers” nowadays are nowhere near the multigenerational superstardom and recognizability of the previous popstars. That’s it.

yes language might have been the barrier, but it is what it is. Shakira is one that example where she truly blew up worldwide when she released English music, but you still can’t compare her level of household name familiarity to someone like BTS’s.

This is all relative, here in my country (Venezuela) most people know or have heard the word "BTS", I use a Seulgi picture for my phone's screen and a girl asked if that was Jennie so, even just by name the words "BP" "Jennie" etc are known. You can't expect them to be on the same level as other superstars many people get turned off by the music simply because of the language, music sung in english has it easier, it's like asking Bad Bunny to be well known in any random country when the reality is that his songs can't even be translated lol his spanish is offensively terrible and badly spoken lol.

the same can be said about mumble rappers or enunciation queens Sza or Ariana and somehow some of them are well known, believe me, language is not the biggest issue when it comes to music and the stats show it - BP’s biggests markets literally include LATAM countries and France  you think kpop fans learn Korean to sing their songs on tour, word for word?
