Making a comeback is also not always about numbers. Miley being respected and genuinely liked (which Plastic Hearts heavily contributed to) is something she desperately needed entering her 30s as being edgy/wild is reserved for younger artists.

 

As a whole, Plastic Hearts is her most crucial era in terms of trajectory and it being more rock influenced will only help it age better with public respect/streams down the line.

Miley lost huge sections of her fanbase after Dead Petz and Younger Now, Plastic Hearts gave her new casual fans and the goodwill of many pop music listeners. It wasn't a massive era numbers-wise, but it clearly gave her career a new wind. Not to mention PH's chart-run on Billboard doesn't translate to it's actual performance, considering that she lost all of Prisoner's SPS because Dua included it on her deluxe reissue.

Whale….I am not the biggest fan of the song. Super basic and I expected a lot from the queen. Like, I get it. The whole Bruno Mars response and Liam stuff but sonically the song is mediocre. I’m surprised it’s doing this well. Where was this energy when Plastic Hearts came out?

How are you surprised? The song is easy-listening with relatable lyrics which is what most people consume these days (i.e SZA, The Weeknd, Harry, New Jeans). I don’t think it’s surprising.

Miley Cyrus of all pop girls (esp her contemporaries) was always most likely to have a big mainstream comeback. When you’re that versatile and talented all you have to do is show the public what you’re capable of. See: Lady Gaga. When you go off the deep end like Bangerz/ARTPOP and follow up with a horrible country project it seems the next step is fixing your career by proving your talent and it clearly works!

 

Now there’s a bunch of iconic eras of Miley for the public to look back on, and right now she’s serving quality and talent. Miley has always been super famous too, even when her music was doing less well. She has never not been A-List since she blew up. I’m proud of her though, hoping for a massive single and era

Malibu was off to a great start but then that awful YN album cover and the underwhelming songs on the album made it flop

 

I think the real turning point in her career was doing Nothing Breaks Like a Heart and then later on making Midnight Sky
