Madonna has always been the same

Featured Replies

People like to say that she has changed in 2008 but honestly, she has not.

About her personality:

Just look at her old interviews, especially the David Letterman one, or her Erotica looks that are basically identical to what she’s wearing nowadays (bleached brows, grillz). Even in some 90s pictures of hers she has her infamous IG selfie angle/pose. :rip: And in Truth Or Dare it’s just a evident that she doesn’t give a **** and loves to troll and get people mad.

Music wise it all depends on the environment but MDNA is a 2012 version of Like A Virgin (with lots of writers and producers) that would’ve been a smash had she debuted with it while the way she created Madame X is probably very similar to Like a Prayer (very experimental and meaningful but still having trendy sounds and artists).

Her music has always been in between of being experimental and trend-chasing  (except debut, LAV and MDNA) and it worked for certain albums while for others it has not. Oh and she’s always been a huge fan of urban music (Erotica, Bedtime Stories) so her working with so many rappers nowadays shouldnt really surprise the geriatric fans.

So I don’t really get what about Madonna nowadays has ‘changed’?

Agree

But because she is not successful anymore (sales, singles, etc) is seems OK to drag her.

Points were made

she's always been an edgelord whose goal is to piss people off :cm:

totally. she’s been dragged her entire career. it’s nothing new.

Agree :clap3:She's always been the same: desperate, relaying on antics to hide the lack of talent and singing voice.

Educate them sis! Also it’s funny how people really thought she’d age like how people in their sixties are expected to age. Like, obviously Madonna is gonna push back against those expectations

The funny thing is people love her for this stuff when some was on top of the world/younger, but as soon as she started ageing that same behaviour was now abhorrent.

Her taste level has gone down as she’s tried to adapt to the digital age and then the streaming age, let’s not try to obfuscate things. We’ll see how the next album goes, but I don’t have high hopes.

Agreed.

For some reason, people seem to forget the Esther years were the exception (a very boring one at that), not the rule.

She's always been a professional troll with a larger-than-life personality (see: LAV at the VMAs, LAP video, Justify My Love, the whole Erotica era just to name a few).

100 % agree. What we see now of Madonna isn't different from 80s and 90s Madonna at all. I just think her marriage to Guy and him being so into Kabbalah and Lourdes' birth temporarily changed her outlook on life. But inside the rebellious party girl never went away

which made ha the best-selling female artist of all time aka THE queen of Pop.

when will the ones with sInGiNg voices and actual talent? :clown:

Madonna just never really grew up. That’s why it’s all so ugly on her now. What I’ve seen in the last few years is someone who was supremely in control now losing some of that control and looking foolish. Madonna might be a professional troll but I always felt like she was aware of and in on any joke, but it seems less so now. She’s being laughed at.

I don’t know about that but I’ve been listening to MDNA a lot recently and it’s a really great album once you get past the granny vocals.

No. She’s a completely different person. All subtlety and nuance is gone, and she’s more juvenile than ever. Watch the Erotica era interviews, especially the ones where she’s defending herself and her new material. There is no comparison to the woman today. I think all the insecurities she never allowed herself to feel in her life caught up with her in the last decade. 1992donna would know 2012donna and 1989donna would know 2003donna, but none of them are hanging out with 2022donna.

If anything the quality control has gone down the drain which was one of the things I loved the most... when you can't even book a proper venue that accomodates your stage (Madame X Tour)...lmao

Tbh, she changed drastically from Ray of Light thru American Life. The GP got used to her new toned down personality after having kids and marrying a British man. When she went back to stripping her clothes and allowing her dark humour to shine through again, they (and ATRL) couldn't handle it.

I agree with some points. Like people in that other thread were saying she isn't "groundbreaking" anymore but True Blue (the peak of her career) and Bedtime Stories (a favorite of many people) are less original than most of her material since MDNA. And if she is being ridiculous on social media these days we can compare to many other moments from back in the day when she was saying/doing questionable things - the difference is when she was younger people said it was authentic/fearless and now that shes old it's a crime for her to have fun and be extra.

Now, some things def changed with her. She used to be more picky and even snobish when it came to choices of musical partners, which reflected on the quality of her musique for the better. Since 2008 she started to feat anything and anyone, just to remain commercially relevant. And she really dont put music as a priority anymore, shes more dedicated to her concerts for example since thats where the $$$ comes from. It all became mainly business to her and i dont see the same ambiton but that happens i guess, after decades of career she wont have the same energy.

"better music" has always to do with your personal taste so :michael:

Thanks for being such a super fan.

:heart2:

She's still the same at heart, the thing is that the world around her has changed. She's doing what she would've done at 30, but she's 65 now and that's just not working the same way. It's fine though, at this point in her life the only one she needs to keep herself happy.
