Make Me... appreciation thread

ill never forgive jamie for banning the lachapelle version

Underrated and underappreciated.:coffee2:

Also, it still sounds fresh.

the original video would've been an iconic moment in her career

Still spin it regularly, absolutely adore this song

Not my cup of tea, but I appreciate it

especially with the video we were gonna get - it was gonna be Much bigger (maybe even top10)

but we all know how fans sabotaged it because of her team's sabotage (they hated how she felt liberated and sure, so they had to break her down (her words))

even Katy Perry(before she was flopping) announced a surprise drop on the same date :dies:

It's something ppl don't expect from Britney, something that would make u respect her more from what I've heard from many non-fans too

THIS! New MV seemed so plain and without an idea tbh

Don't know why but I prefer this version :jonny5:

me too. g eazy was unneccessary

I remember being enamored when I heard the first verse, then the chorus came and I felt something was missing. I still do. Repetitive and plain. Original video could have been legendary though.

The number of meltdowns and iconic moments from this era...

- Katy surprise dropping Rise on the same day

- The tragic album cover reveal

- The iconic Private Show post

- The HYPE when small parts of the original video leaked

- The re-shot video debuting on August 5th and sending fans into a RAGE, album pre-orders cancelled

- The minimalistic VMA performance when everyone was expecting something BIG

- Barbra Streisand and her tour bundles

it was ROUGH:clownny:

Do somebody has the iconic post? I think about it regularly!

OT: I didn’t quite like it when it came out but it clicked with me after a few years and now I replay it very often! It was a breath of fresh air after Myah Jean

G Easy is still the worst and he ruined this song. Make Me is such a good song and it was something fresh and mature for Britney, the original video was quite daring considering the circumstances she was operating under, and the new video was some kind of weird reverse MeToo casting couch situation.

It would’ve easily gone top 10 if the original video had been followed, and to be honest if they’d gotten a decent rapper. What I hated about the conservatorship is how they hamfisted random artists who nobody knew onto her songs, like Sabi, who Larry was behind I think. Britney did everything she could, I’m excited to see her release another album without all the sabotage and interference.

This song is so good! I’m not a huge fan of her music but I absolutely ADORE this song and wish she did more in this vein.

Also really love How I Roll, Breathe On Me, Trip To Your Heart

A banger. I don’t see enough appreciation for this song, even when people praise glory they never mention the lead single other than to complain about the album art or what could have been with the original music video. This song deserves to stand on its own without all that baggage :coffee:

I was OBSESSED with this when it came out - really thought it was one of her best sings

I kinda love the chorus still though

I was surprised to see the mixed reception for this one... and then I wasn't.

Further proof of a deep generational chasm that divides ATRL into two camps; the twentysomething pop sophisticates with 15 to 20 years of top-shelf pop consumption to their name, and an unruly kid crew with Scream Queens avatars and tributes to Nick Jonas in their signatures. It's not that the latter generation is a lost cause entirely, but they've clearly never heard a "Britney" that is, they've never encountered a voice quite as distinctive as Britney's. "But I know Britney! Circus was the first album I bought!" First off, ask for a refund. And no, you don't know Britney, you know a very stilted and subdued version of the iconic performer.

The Britney of "Private Show" is Britney as Britney is intended to sound. She very skillfully vacillates between a range of tones; she nasally, then guttural, then grainy, then nasally again, then delicate. (And yes, that's how she's supposed to do it.) She's sultry. She's goofy. She's sounds slightly absurd. She's fully engaged. She's expressive in ways that "technically superior" vocalists just aren't. She is brilliant. You have no idea how brilliant she is.

This is the probably purest attempt Britney has made to harness some of that ineffable charm that made her early work so irresistible. I adore it.

OMG thank you hahah !

really a fun time back then.

and yeah a shame she never got to release the original video, maybe someday

Amazing song, amazing album :alexz: Wish Glory hadn’t been sabotaged and could have been given the proper single release and promo it deserved, there were so many hits waiting to happen on there. Glad to know how much Britney still loves it tho.
