Her recent singles have all been underwhelming, her lyrics are tacky and cheap and full of clichés, and the album cover is tragic compared to the SAWAYAMA one. She used to be IT in 2020. What will it take for her to get good again? What happend?

She carried too much expectation 

 

For me she is a basic artist who has same favorite artists with the gays. Put a random electric guitar in the middle of chorus to give her an edgy image, and very weird album cover and Voila! The Stan Twitter's IT girl

 

Her artistry is not proven that deep yet for people praised her to the heaven 

She referenced many artists, and most likely she just copied every small little pieces of their style to her

 

I will still check her next album, but I will keep my expectation low

I do agree that the cover is a choice though, and her music in general has declined in quality since her EP but I think people will still like the full album when it comes out

Well that's just your opinion because I have been loving everything this era.

She sold out and wanted to lean to a more top 40 / mainstream sound but failed to balance it with the alternative/experimental touch her listeners anticipate from her.

I haven't been following this era closely and I also wasn't familiar with her first era beyond XS. However, it's clear to me she knows the kind of music she wants to make and which audience she wants to make it for.

 

She's 32, making music, modeling, and set to make her film acting debut in John Wick: Chapter 4 early next year.

HTG pre-singles > Sawayama pre-singles

 

I don't know why y'all are complaining when there is little to no change in sound from Sawayama, or even her EP. 

I didn't like This Hell much but other than that I think her new stuff has been good. Gonna wait for the full album to judge. 

 

Also Sawayama is a massively acclaimed album, u can't expect an artist to knock it out of the park every single time.

Not true. Sawayama was much more grand and had better production and lyrics than most of the HTG singles

This. I didn’t like This Hell at all at first tbh but it’s fine now. The other singles are really good though. Idk why people are complaining 

She didn't release another 'Who's Gonna Save U Now?' That's why.

I mean tbh Sawayama wasn’t exactly all that either aside from the singles

mmm I don't think her music changed that much + her lyrics have always been cheesy. Don't worry, if critics praise her album yall will follow suit.

This is really important to note too, I remember people trashing all the singles except for XS, saying that she had lost it and then they switched after album release. I remember the Bad Friend reception was especially bad, with people saying they were not even going to bother with the album after hearing it. 

 

She was never a big artist so I don’t really believe she has “fell off”, more so just not knocking it out of the park like she did on SAWAYAMA.

 

I think the loudest part of her fanbase have always preferred her more upbeat rock and/or Britney infused songs ala XS, Dynasty, Cyber Stockholm Syndrome. If she wanted more mainstream attention, I do think that these she should have tried to incorporate the types of inspirations to do that.

 

However, I think people will still listen and she will probably release some other album in the future which connects more to the fans disappointed with this one. I don’t think a less acclaimed album is the end of the world for her. There are many artists who release less popular albums and bounce back pretty easily, especially ones with cult followings like Rina.

She sold out and essentially became a Gaga tribute act to appeal to the mainstream I guess. I was hoping LUCID was just a dud and her other singles would be much better quality-wise but I guess not. A shame cause she's so so talented
