Britney: Debut Album January 1999 - Second era starts March 2000 with the release of Oops single (1 year 2 months)

 

Gaga: Debut Album November 2009 - Second era starts October 2009 with the release of Bad Romance (11 months)

 

 

We are now a year and two months away from Olivia Rodrigo's debut album. She has not released a single to radio since last fall with "Traitor". No soundtrack singles, no collabs, nothing.

 

Teenagers move on FAST. When you're a phenomenon teen act like Olivia, you need to strike fast. Where is her second era?? THIS IS THE TIME. Her songs are still doing well on Spotify, her audience is getting sick of Sour streaming it non-stop:

They want new material!! Her tour is over. What's the hold up? There is no sign at all of her lead single. No video rumours, no behind the scenes news, nothing.

I agree she should be looking to release this fall.  

However I would point out that a lot of artists release their second album after 2+ years.

Taylor: 2 years

Adele: 3 years

Katy: 2 years

Billie: 2 years

Dua: 3 years

 

She's already getting her own makeup palette as we speak. It's over!

She is busy being Conan's hag.

 

but really the lead needs to come in like August-september or october at most.

No you don't. Other teen phenomenons have been able to take 3-4 year breaks in between eras because they stayed relevant in between the first and second eras. Look at Aaliyah, Monica, Christina, Brandy, Usher etc 

 

All Olivia needs to do is some cute collabs/soundtrack singles, and maybe some acting and she would be A-Ok for a 2023-24 release tbh. She could also oversaturate herself by releasing too soon. Billie did that even though she didn't flop. Billie should've released this year 

The Fame was released in August 2008 so that'd be 1 year and 2 months like Britney

 

And both Britney and Gaga... underperformed with their third albums so maybe they shouldn't be the standard to follow  

Olivia is smart by avoiding burnout and overexposure

She said in an interview that she was working on it and wanted to make sure everything was perfect.  She just finished tour so she's probably going to take some time off.  There is zero reason for her to rush release lower quality material.  She has the GP at the palm of her hand, she can easily wait until Q4 2022 or Q1 2023 and be fine.   The album already has a name and some of the songs are finished, so its not like we are going to be waiting forever. 

 

She's doing a great job of avoiding overexposure, because she was literally everywhere last year.   You said teenagers move on fast, yet Adele, Lorde, and Billie all debuted with huge numbers on day 1 when they made a comeback in the last few years.  They didn't serve huge longevity because the songs weren't liked, but the interest was still there.  

 

She has a new song she wrote for HSM coming out next week, it will help pass the time.

It’s not the best idea to rush release a second album. 

Hopefully by the end of the year. Use that Sour Tour money to book a Max Martin smasha, queen! 

Releasing the lead single in late 2022 or early 2023 sounds right. Having recently finished her tour, Olivia deserves to rest and then take all the time she needs to perfect the next album. I trust her work ethic and know she'll deliver with OR2.  

SOUR is still smashing so she's not pressured.

I actually think she is taking too long times are different during the streaming era especially cause she is a teen act.

She is stuck in an awful Disney contract. That is probably what is stopping her

That said, generally it is really helpful to release a good amount of music in-between. 

Like Taylor released 1 ep and one (regrettable) Christmas ep
Gaga released the Fame Monster EP
Dua had like 30 singles
Billie never stoped releasing singles
Katy's OOTB era extended through the summer of 2009 and Teenage dream started in May 2010 so there was only a short gap.

Olivia on the other hand has not really released anything so I do think she should work on material fast.    

She screams fad, someone else will be the new Gen Z darling by the time her next lead single drops

I’m sure she’s cooking something up but I doubt all the pressure helps speed things up 

She’ll do a Taylor blueprint and release every two years. Which is the best way tbh. Enough time to live life, to get the material for songwriting, and not being overexposed. She’ll release on January 2023.

The fact that she didn’t even do an arena tour for the era is shocking tbh. She could easily end up a fad

Isn’t she still like just outside the top 10? I feel like her audience is still there.
