Rina Sawayama - "This Hell"

Featured Replies

Worst song she's ever put out. On Best Song Ever, she said she started to appreciate Shania when she found out how many hits she has. That hit-seeking outlook is reflected in the worst way here. It's all calculated gimmicks & no depth or heart. The concept toys with being provocative but she didn't take it far enough which is why it feels cheap. If you're gonna exploit religious persecution against LGBTQ+ people on a vapid dance cut, make it fun. If it's not fun, make it deep. It plays with being both a 'song with a message' & a sassy kiss-off but ends up confused & convoluted. This song makes me feel like I just read a Buzzfeed article. She has promise but this transparent bid at commercial success is so off-putting. The album better have stuff that doesn't feel so self-produced & insincere. She tried to do so many things at once here, she successfully did nothing.

I actually really enjoy this? It's kinda giving dead eyed Y2K pop which I feel like a couple people have tried to do and not pulled off.

I absolutely hate this. The most basic and generic songs I have heard from her. Sound like a Japan exclusive bonus track from 2011/12 :biblio: Please tell me this not how the whole album will sound like/be?

ma'am this is atrl...

ot: idk how i feel about this, i hope she's saving the best for the album.

Wow y’all are so miserable. The lyrics are very clearly very sarcastic. The instrumental bops so hard. It’s also no way her worst single, like that is such blasphemy when Lucid is there. :deadbanana:

sounds like mixture of bubblegum pop song from 2013 with a mixture of Marina worst lyricism… I mean the song is interesting and feels so fun tbh with her speaking vocals and all but it lacks a punch or something more groundbreaking tbh but to be fair it’s not a bad song at all but she can do better definitely

It’s a catchy bop, probably to catch the GP’s ear and for pride and whatnot

relax

It's a pop song. It is not that serious, mama!

OT: This is a bop. Love how playful and fun it is. We love seeing a queer women having fun!

"it's a pop song" but i thought she's supposed to be the second coming of modern alt pop. L after L.

I wouldn't say this is an attempt of commercial success, more like buying into your own hype. but overall I agree

i listened to the leak but hearing it again now, i still like it. It's no where near Sawayama level but its cute.

love it. :heart2:

but then I heard Follow Me for the first time, came on after... what a BOP omg. :katie2:and Pabllo actually sounds good for once
