Was Gagas downfall inevitable?

Featured Replies

The Gays were Gaga's undoing, that's why her straight appealing peers like Katy and Lana outstream her.

I don't know how someone as objectively talented as Gaga doesn't have a definitive album that's widely acclaimed. I think she's too unfocused and insecure in her ideas so in that sense yes, a downfall was inevitable. But she managed to pivot into acting and being a general celebrity that is always around doing something so good for her.

but she did? she had the fame which was a hugely succesful era, which she followed up with the fame monster which was even more successful and then born this way? that was 3 huge albums

Monsters claiming BTW is her second album but then saying it’s her third when it’s convenient :rip: also, yes BTW was successful but it was a steep decline from The Fame. Just look at the singles stats.

I've always said that BTW is her third. it's not our fault that her label chose to release it as a 2cd set with the fame, whilst also selling it as an album of it's own.

I agree, I say that BTW is her 3rd album but I’ve seen monsters say otherwise this past week. One said The Fame had 7 top 10 hits in the USA and then another said in the “third era curse” thread that ARTPOP is her 3rd, not BTW. So I’m just going with that narrative

she left that mess completely behind and gained her popularity back. Who cares anymore.

The Fame Monster?

Yes. Like with every artist? Every artist has a decline. The higher you climb, the harder you fall

First of all, The Fame and The Fame Monster really were two separate projects and eras, released almost two years apart from each other (early 2008, late 2009). I don’t understand why their stats are almost always combined. It’s like combining Ariana Grande’s Yours Truly with the album she released just eight months later, My Everything.

With that being said, I don’t think her noticeable commercial decline was because of her alignment with the LGBT. Sure, it probably turned off the egregiously homophobic/religious white people that continue to terrorize America, but despite that demographic being loud and insufferable, they’re a minority numbers-wise. Most of them never liked her or supported her music in the first place, even when she was smashing. Also, I believe the Alejandro music video did more immediate damage than “Born This Way” with that group.

She declined hard because consumer trends in music started to change in 2012, she didn’t adapt, and drank too much of her own kool-aid. The more her ego grew, the more out-of-touch her antics and shock tactics became, which resulted in a newer sound that was difficult for the average pop music listener to personally relate to or casually enjoy. She stopped resonating because her primary focus was to “continue pushing the envelope” for the sake of self-indulgent media attention instead of just relying on her objective musical talent to make genuine songs. ARTPOP is a loud, overproduced mess. It is all over the place genre-wise, and you can not convince me a song like “Jewels and Drugs” is authentic to Stefani Germanotta. The lead single “Applause” is not a relatable song at all, unless you are a narcissist or a stage performer. The majority of music listeners are neither. This made a lot of people assume she didn’t have much artistic integrity left, so they left.

With that being said, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the Sound of Music Oscar’s performance revived her career. It’s also not difficult to understand why A Star Is Born is her most successful era of recent years. It’s also not shocking that she’s well-received as an actress. Why? Because she learned to shut Lady Gaga’s ego up and finally let her TALENT do the talking.

TLDR: She declined because she started to focus too hard on everything else that goes into pop-stardom, except the music itself/making music that actually resonates with general listeners.

I didn't expect the sudden drop so early in her career

Well when you put it that way :rip:

She does a lot of things but she isn’t particularly good at anything. Her music career fell after one era, her acting is meh, even her antics and fashion got boring after a while so yes, her downfall was inevitable. She’s a popular general celeb but she doesn’t really have anything specific that she has mastered. Like Taylor has her songwriting, Rihanna has her fashion, Ariana has her vocals. Gaga is just kinda there on the edge of irrelevance. Even her beauty brand flopped as compared to rem beauty and Rare. Even Selena surpassed her in one department.

Also, what her fans call versatility is her branching into different fields to keep her celeb status because she’s not doing good in any one of them :rip:

First of all, no :rip:

Secondly, BTW sold that much off of TFM hype. BTW didn't deliver, so no one bought Artpop as a result.

Kind of like a TD-Prism-Witness style run. Prism still sold but the damage was already done from the lack of quality served, Witness was doomed.

all of this.

It's even more ironic and absurd when you consider that Taylor (her fave) literally praised Gaga for her versatility and her ability to succeed in multiple fields 17HSMdI.gif

WHERE is the self-awareness? 17HSMdI.gif

Anyway, yeah. Once you achieve that kind of gargantuan peak and chokehold on pop culture it's inevitable that you'll decline. But we're in 2022 where Gaga is a respected and loved music/film/fashion icon and some of y'all are still stuck in 2013. Sad! :rip:

OGH do the same thing. they claim it was 3 seperate eras to make the sales seem lower, but when it's convenient to what they're saying, they claim TF and TFM are one era

her last solo lead single debuted at #5 with 50k pure sales + 19.7M streams + 20M radio airplay.

she sittin’ pretty

:gaygacat5:

The monsters will never agree on this

Because if TF and TFM monster are counted together it means the peak was higher but then it also means the downfall was huge

There is no way of wining

her downfall was inevitable, but her comeback was an impressive surprise

she predicted it all in the paparazzi video :soda:
