The Applause and Artpop days were an absolute massacre of the monsters  they only came out of the shadows in 2018 

Applause definitely. It signaled a major shift in Gaga's career at the time. Although she bounced back from it, it seemed like a huge deal at the time. The ARTPOP example wasn't a surprise after Applause flopped. ADELE's example kind of seems like a nonevent rn, especially since EOM still did really well. No one was checking for Camilla to begin with. Taylor's example wasn't really a big deal either since the album still did (and is doing) well. Smile was also not a surprise after Witness.

The whole Applause/ARTPOP era, it was emergency after emergency  

The Applause discourse by far.

Was Lover not debuting with 1M actually a big deal on ATRL? Knowing ATRL, I would absolutely not be surprised if it was, but I thought most people had a common understanding that it was no longer possible to do such numbers in the current sales climate 

Pop emergency should be reputation still debuts with 1M+ after disastrous singles

 

on the list though, definitely Applause.

Is this all of guys care about all day? 

I don't know, there are some that are really iconic.

 

BJ doing ~100k and debuting #4 (after 6 #1 debuts and 1 iconic #2), Applause/Artpop mess and CTTR/BA 

I would say Applause/Artpop, the fact that everyone was so sure about Gaga's power to be completely outshined by Katy was a mess  And then coming with the "AlBuM SelLer" narrative to debut with less units than Prism and Bangerz 

 

Wait, ME! debuting #2 with all those gimmicks
