For the rest there's no real indication that the movie is being perceived in that way nowadays in general, on IMDB (biggest worldwide movie rate site) is 7,7 which is a lot for a horror movie, on Metacritic it's 87 and 8,5 with the users rate, 96 on Rotten certified fresh, the movie keeps being mentioned on media outlet between the Horror classics, there's no really any indication when it comes to both critics and audience that the movie has aged poorly. Well I am claiming it because I am stating my opinion in a horror discussion thread! The point I was making is that I won't give it a pass for being from a different time when I find other 70s classics to have aged far better. But let me expand more meaningfully on my Halloween hatred. It's sterile and thin, little more than a sturdy framework for later slashers to build upon. And unfortunately, it didn't even only establish the bed for the flowers of the genre to grow, it equally gestated its detriments. The moral conservatism is there, the lecherous gaze towards teenage girls is there, the flat characters are there, the stupid decisions are there. It lacks any of the stylisation, irreverence, campiness, narrative interest, grotesque flair or exaggeration that all in some combination made the worthwhile slashers work. On 10/9/2023 at 9:19 PM, The Man Who said: The Texas Chainsaw Box Office Massacre didn’t age like a fine wine at all for me. I rewatched it recently as I hadn’t seen it in years and not only did I find it boring, I had to lower my volume during the table scene as I couldn’t tolerate how long Sally was screaming for, it was painful to sit through. Well, I am fortunate enough to have caught both Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween in packed cinema showings in recent years. Would you like me to tell you which one held the audience rapt and which one had all its scares laughed at? Hint: it wasn't the one that has actual intentional comedic elements. 1
Reverse Warholian Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Not @ChapelHooker getting in a 2nd rate before me and GF. You can't rush art I guess! @genetic fail and I entering our 'Bongos' era 3
Vulnicura Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Just watched Swallowed. Amazing film Spoiler and also kinda hot 1

Good for you and those packed cinemas, but how does what you said change my opinion on The Texas Chainsaw Box Office Massacre being boring and having an annoying final act? Am I not allowed to share my opinion in a horror thread? 1

ATRL Moderator Ampersand13 Posted October 11, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted October 11, 2023 Ah yes, A24, the studio that has convinced everyone their projects inherently possess a magnitude of validity and artistry based solely on the company’s uncanny ability to market themselves as unique when in fact they exercise as much originality as everyone else in the game but with a more identifiable brand. This should be fun.
