Isn't anyone who works with music/plays an instrument musicians? That includes singers. This gatekeeping of the term as if only the great can be musicians

As much as I hate to agree with Mel, regarding GD as being just an idol is nonsense and kinda delusional as well. Sure, being an idol might be a stepping stone for him to get in the industry; however, he’s became so much more than that.

Those so called real musicians wish they have half of his talents. 

 

You don’t start a job at a company and expect to remain in the position forever. You do get promoted if youre GOODD!

BB really holds the title as the most respected musicians of Korea, the loudest racists, and the biggest criminals. Its sad, but it is what it is. 

I know the person who's talking about the lack of artistry in k-pop and cherry picking who can be called musicians in the industry didn't say Blackpink is the last female group who deserve to be respected as musical artists

Don't know if I'd go that far since playing an instrument can also be a hobby, but the gatekeeping thing is an interesting concept because if you grow up within Korea's military industrial entertainment complex and you want to become a working "musician," making yourself pretty and entering the idol system was the only doorway.  And despite the promise of direct-to-consumer marketing the internet provides, it seems to still be the only doorway if you want to be a comfortable working "musician."

You don’t have to be a contrarian just because Blackpink is the biggest female group of all time. They got there by being the most musically pleasing. All four members can contribute musically, something Aespa, Red Velvet and Girls Generation never had or will have going for them.

Lisa has outstanding bars of rap in her second and third language. Something Red Velvet, Aespa and Girls Generation are unable to do in their native languages. SM sheep are always so bothered. At least the JYP girls know their lane.
