Ummm wtf :rip: why are they bothering with this I-

I'm sorry but I can't stand that flip flop flipping ass bxtch Zach.   Any who. The hype was dead they said. Nobody cared they said. The engagement will never be like it was with Motivation t

the release of this dont they remix is still so awk for me cause like how are they gonna release a remix for a 2 year old song as if it was big back then, which it wasnt, and as if anyone cared enough about the main artist of the track. im losing all hope for her debut cause it feels like one bad decision being made after another and they just keep getting worse :michael:

I don’t think her collaborating with her close childhood friend says anything about her career choices and the plans for her debut. If anything she’s just doing him a favour by jumping on the song.

Exactly this.

I loved her verse on the track and their harmonies were beautiful. I’ll use it to hold myself over till whenever CP drops. Really praying that’s also this month

What don’t y’all make of this cuz i’m simply tired of singles after candy paint, i don’t want another single.

I make absolutely nothing of it. For the most part.

There are some definite parallels: neither was the focus of their group, as such were never positioned to be "ready" once those groups wrapped. Lead/main singers typically don't have that problem as they've been trained, almost like athletes, to be front and center from the get-go.

Where that Twitter hot-take falters for me is how "not ready" somehow translates to...sabotage. The real sabotage with both ladies (in different ways) is that they themselves didn't recognize the card they were unfairly dealt and didn't do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING possible to turn the tide from the second they went solo.

And IMO Normani's situation is actually worse than Kelly's...because it initially started off better.

With Kelly, she made the massive mistake of sticking with Mathew Knowles, Columbia, etc after DC, so her everything was worked around not interfering with the main push for Beyonce. Which, in a way, is not even personal, but logical (for them) business-wise. For reasons of loyalty and probable industry noviceness, she automatically became second fiddle even in her solo career. By the time she got rid of Mathew and changed labels, the "second fiddle" reality had cemented and she still wasn't making aggressive enough moves to become "a thing". In fairness to her too, there also weren't opportunities befitting of her talent or potential there for her to thrive even if she tried harder (which she didn't).

Normani is actually worse IMO.

She presented as breaking the curse by putting all the rights cards in place from the jump. New label, major management (on paper), and had MPG buzz with Motivation. It was all there. But in the time since, both she and her team have been almost unrelenting in their ability to squander what's left of her hype.

With her, it's the lack of visibility, the lack of engagement, and the "perfectionist" BS (and it's total BS). It's almost like she presents as this wildly successful boutique artist that swoops down for the big moments and big moments only when in reality she's a newcomer who should be everywhere...just like the faves she stans were back when they were in her position. YOU CANNOT BYPASS THE HUSTLE. Even in this social media age.

And yes, Chloe is a perfect comparator. She puts the work in, is hyper visible, and reaps the rewards despite having a fraction of the commercial "success" Normani has. While colorism is unquestionably a thing sadly, Chloe's award show slots and nominations and social media stock aren't because of her hue IMO. She just plays the game better. We can't really talk about the nepotism of her backing when in reality the ladies are repped by the same household. Chloe having Bey and Normani having Jay by way of the Roc Nation affiliation.

With the label: they should have long gone guns blazing. IMO, nothing should have stopped the train they were on with Motivation. NOTHING. All this perfection talk, back in the studio, finding my artistry BS, actually works better as sophomore album marketing fodder. They should have had her drop an album full of Motivations that year and build from there . Even by label standards, it's odd that she was ever "allowed" (especially as a new artist) to not quickly capitalize on what was shaping up to be a hit single. I think it's safe to say, none of us really look at labels as these creative, nurturing hubs for talent anymore. Now, more than ever, it's a business. A reactive one at that (see: TikTok). So, by business standards, not (dare I say) rush-releasing an album after Motivation is what has her/us where we are now. Maybe it was a Keep Cool thing, maybe it was RCA. Whatever the case, they've messed up.

With management: outside of the entry-level brand deals and surface visibility, the inability to solve the issues outlined above says all that needs to be said.

IF Normani starts doing what she's supposed to and still underperforms or is overlooked, then there's a more feasible argument for "sabotage". And even then, one could still counter by simply acknowledging that timing is everything and the fact is that she's been playing Russian roulette with her timing. She doesn't have many more shots left.

can we not “think piece” every situation surrounding her career please? it’s not like this collab will do much for EITHER of their careers :skull: (ofc josh will obviously benefit more) I just looked it as cute collab between friends. nothing more nothing less. (also she sounds spectacular so that’s a plus :celestial2:)

It’s on his “Disc Two” album which comes out this coming Thursday.

Why are people in this thread acting like Normani controls Josh Levi’s release dates or like it determines anything about Candy Paint/Normani’s music?

I know y’all like to make conspiracy theories about everything, but this is literally just a Normani feature song. We already knew from @WheresJay that Candy wasn’t coming until the 17th the earliest. Just enjoy the lil remix (and video apparently) everyone.

It’s a JuneMani miracle or whatever:coffee2:

Right. Also, be understanding that songs have been sent out to DSP’s there is a plan. Also, for RCA to have cleared her verse for Josh is a HUGE indicator that things are moving along, her way.

Am I hearing JuneMani?

I’m thinking about how this week would’ve been the perfect release week. No ‘big’ releases this week apart from Post Malone, but do the GP really check for him that much anymore?

Spoiler

On another note, hang in there y’all. It’s around the corner now - it’s imminent.

i don't think so to, her career choices say everything about her career choices and clearly those choices are also a mess like for example the fans fair video she's still planning to drop. fairs ship has sailed a long time ago and she lost her timing what she always seem to do

I actually COMPLETELY forgot about this until you mentioned it :deadbanana4: God the Fair "rollout" (if you can even call it that) was truly a disaster from start to finish.

They said everything I had to say. Also there’s a stationhead streaming party happening tonight if anyone wants to discuss conspiracies with other nation members outside of ATRL. The username is Kingston radio. It’ll be at 7 pm EST

I actually thought the same thing too. It’s only Posty. But Im sure they are waiting for a week where she can’t even get Top 5 on NMF. :rip:

The past year has been recycled conversations about her career. It's so overdone now. Y'all will fold as soon as she drops CP

PRAYING for this album to come. I enjoyed Fair and I'm disappointed by it's roll out and the reception, but still excited for an album. They have waited way too long.

Is there any news about a candy paint music video? @WheresJay

No but again, after what happened with Fair, don’t expect her to be very transparent about the making of a video. Great lesson for her, if you ask me.

I just hope the video drops the same time as the song. Her videos are her strongest selling point. Imo

true, when wild side dropped the thing people talked about the most was the mv and the second thing was how cardi ruined the song :skull:

This is the first Normani feature cleared in YEARS. I agree 100% that we should take this as a strong indication that the label is fine with what’s going on despite the fans being highly frustrated.

Clearly, there is some sort of plan or they would have no reason to clear this track (and it’s not even an in-label collab since Josh is on Atlantic).
