That song is too slow for a lead single, I can't believe her team think this is a good choice for a lead after everything that has been said and done.

 

After hearing the snippet, the choice of song as a lead single makes no sense. All she has to do is release 2 up-tempo singles in a row to start her era and she's going for slow RnB yet again, I don't understand why they're going in this direction.

 

Sadly, I'm going to ease back from her now, the decisions being made make me think she doesn't want to win.

I don't know anything about any features she's doing for other artists, sorry friend. I only know about her own work 

 

Also now that I think about it, I have a very hard time imaging Normani on a song with the Scarlet sound. She would've fit on Planet Her or Hot Pink but I highly doubt she's on Scarlet deluxe

So it's stupid to release between Taylor (who will not release a lead single) and Bey because Bey's second week is worth fearing… but 4/26, Taylor's 2nd week, is totally okay?

 

Realistically there is no "right" time to release cause everyone is releasing all the time. I'm sure between 4/5 & 4/12, we will get even more surprise releases and stuff. 

with all that being said, I do agree it's kind of stupid to wait this long but it seems like it's her team focusing on that presave ****… again.  I'm hoping for some promo leading up to it but we will see what happens, I'm thinking at least this upcoming week will be cute videos & promo, the following week will be radio silence, maybe another cute video the week of the 8th or single cover.. radio silence again… then release week there will be more content. Let's pray sisters. We're almost there!!!

If true, that's GENIUS because the music style fits with high fashion. 1:59 sounds classy and sleek. A good fashion brand & music actually lines up with what Normani said she wanted to do for years (which is crack into fashion). If she plays this right, some fans will be mad (cause she won't be 100% invested in music) but she'll be reaching her goals right on time.

Even when I think about Aaliyah, she did R&B but it always had a good melody or bop to it (like Try Again). So you could get some good choreography out of it. 1:59 feels like we def not getting an iconic video unless the budget is serving Waves (it was a 3-day video shoot for those who remember and they shot scenes that weren't even used on a real beach 😭).

A smash song is a smash song. Whether it's fast, slow, R and B, or Pop. I think when people hear the whole song and see the video hearts will change. She's probably coming for a Wild Side sized hit, and honestly that would be great.

I personally don't care about what those Twitter trolls say. They only are doing that because they know they can get a viral tweet a Normani's expense. I personally don't get the whole "dated" critiques when this year the number ones/top 10 this year have been nothing but 2010's and 90's sounding music. I mean let's be honest Ariana's last album literally sounded like Mariah Carey's Music Box and Beyoncé isn't making anything too experimental in fact she's doing straight Heartland Pop/Country from the 2000's. I mean even Kanye's music sounds like something from The life of Pablo meets Watch the Throne. 

 

To me the snippet isn't the most exciting but it sounds more interesting than whatever Selena just put out (which also sounded like a song straight of 2018.) I think the hate is just coming from the fact that it's a month away plus slow songs aren't really common in spring/summer. But we have to remember that Wild Thoughts and Boo'd Up came out around/got hot during the spring/summer so there is still hope.
