October 19, 20241 yr comment_26697468 Tbh what made Joanne is fascinating, is how Gaga sought out to make music that would heal her dad and make her love her and feel more conected, something that would finally her family together in a healthy way. Idk if she noticed, but all of the songs are about how the generational trauma affected HER in such a monumental way, and it probably caused the exact opposite. It made her family realize how f*cked up it was and not fair it was to herald Joanne as such a martyr, and make her memory and point of pain and not one of looking back at the happy memories. Spoiler I think Joanne especially is what caused the wedge between Gaga and her father, which caused him go down the coo-coo Trump supporter train further. It kinda exposed HIM as the unhealthy one who was not present, the one who romaticized Joanne's memory in a weird way and made her a cornerstorne of Gaga's life, he was the one who gave Gaga Joanne's actual name. I don't think he realized how much hurt in Gaga's live was not caused by the loss of Joanne, but it was cost by him refusing to heal. John Wayne is kind of the most telling song of the album and nails that exact POV. It's Gaga holding up a mirror to her dad's face, saying "The way you treated me as a kid made me seek out men who treat me like filth and are not good to me." and I think that song specifically might have broken his ego in a monumental way.
