I can't stand Toad Syphillis for his terrible script, but his worst offense is how he portrayed Harley. Am I the only one who feels like he tried to distance himself from the incel baggage of the first movie, only to end up depicting Harley exactly the way redpilled men view women?

She's exactly that  the moment he give up on his status as "The Joker", she give up on him. "Poor victim, she's a ***** that was only using you".

And also their sex scene was something

His portrayal of her wasn't baseless. Lee is a manipulative woman who was obsessed with the idea of him being a master serial killer. People like that exist to this day, with shows like Dahmer literally showing how misrepresentation and sensationalizing murderers leads people down dark holes. The film was about propping somebody up in your mind and the dangers that can bring (both for personal life and for the world at large). Lee was clearly supposed to be a grifter and was using him and he was the one being strung up by her (an intentional subversion of their stories). She studied a made up version of him on TV and became obsessed, he made up an idea of who she is in his mind and gets betrayed by it (the delusion of two). She's able to go around the prison because she has money and the guards are corrupt and don't care about their jobs. She's pretty much free to do what she wants because she comes from money and is educated. 

 

There was a clear attempt to bring up the theme of sensationalizing violence and the harm that brings from leading blindness followers down a dark path (clearly referencing the reaction to the first movie). Also there's a clear reference to the disconnect people make with versions of themselves that are online vs reality, and I think that's something Gaga likely resonated with and brought to this character. Lee is complex as a woman because she wants to fit into a fantasy that she knows very well will not last, but does so anyways. Women can be bad people too but I don't think that's the point of the film, especially when it's largely a trial of a man who killed 6 people and gets beat up several times. If anything you'd think that male audiences would enjoy this change because it would validate some of their opinions but I don't think that's a harmful aspect of the movie when it's literally a sequel to Joker.

 

Her voice sounds so LIGHT and powerful in that performance ughhhh it's so beautiful

I get fans wishing that she would do movies more frequently, but it is difficult when she's juggling both a music and acting career. Like, fans don't want to wait another three years for her next movie but how exactly will it be sooner if you also want her to record and release albums and go on world tours that take up months of an entire year?

 

Plus, her only doing one movie every three years or so makes her film releases feel like more of an event. But more than anything, it's very clear to see the positive impact that slowing down the pace of her career has had on her both personally and creatively. She was working herself into the ground for years, taking her time has clearly done wonders for her.
