Yeah. Same happened with DOC, she released physicals and vinyls in different weeks. It's a shame because it also could've been another top 10 for her, but kinda shows they are not really worried about peaks and I guess that's kinda good.

His portrayal of her wasn't baseless. Lee is a manipulative woman who was obsessed with the idea of him being a master serial killer. People like that exist to this day, with shows like Dahmer literally showing how misrepresentation and sensationalizing murderers leads people down dark holes. The film was about propping somebody up in your mind and the dangers that can bring (both for personal life and for the world at large). Lee was clearly supposed to be a grifter and was using him and he was the one being strung up by her (an intentional subversion of their stories). She studied a made up version of him on TV and became obsessed, he made up an idea of who she is in his mind and gets betrayed by it (the delusion of two). She's able to go around the prison because she has money and the guards are corrupt and don't care about their jobs. She's pretty much free to do what she wants because she comes from money and is educated. 

 

There was a clear attempt to bring up the theme of sensationalizing violence and the harm that brings from leading blindness followers down a dark path (clearly referencing the reaction to the first movie). Also there's a clear reference to the disconnect people make with versions of themselves that are online vs reality, and I think that's something Gaga likely resonated with and brought to this character. Lee is complex as a woman because she wants to fit into a fantasy that she knows very well will not last, but does so anyways. Women can be bad people too but I don't think that's the point of the film, especially when it's largely a trial of a man who killed 6 people and gets beat up several times. If anything you'd think that male audiences would enjoy this change because it would validate some of their opinions but I don't think that's a harmful aspect of the movie when it's literally a sequel to Joker.

I agree with everything you said, and I definitely prefer your interpretation over mine. It's probably because I'm really attached to Harley Quinn's character in the comics, where abuse and her struggle for agency are such key elements of her persona and growth. I get that this isn't Harley but someone named Lee that is loosely based on the character but I was still a bit disappointed for that reason—making her just a plot device to push him in a certain direction felt like a waste. Realistically, it feels (to me) like if her character was removed from the film, someone else could easily fill that role without changing the plot or the endgame. But thanks for answering and sharing your perspective, I appreciate it

Yeah, like this would be a bomb and/or embarrassing if the goal was to reclaim past glories or light up the charts or if she had spent the last four years talking about how much she's going to slay, etc. We cannot be upset at her finally doing side musical projects after years of begging her to not keep us in the dark.

Yesss. I feel like LG7 will be an entire different story!  Releasing the lead so far away from the album gives me the feeling she is gonna try the **** out of this album. Can't wait for it! Also, glad she did not waste SNL with the movie.

I maybe late but that Kimmel performance was AMAZING. She sounded so good and in total control. Her vocals have been pitch perfect lately.

No one actually cares about a jazz covers album flopping. I've listened to Happy Mistake like 3 times and everything else once, and never revisited. I'm sure many fans are the same. Still love the sis though and am glad she's letting out this creative energy before it's real business with LG7.  

Even the Daily Viral Songs chart got updated, I doubt Spotify will update today.

none of these have been critically acclaimed. Do u expect me to stand outside theatres and ask people coming out for their reviews? like everyone else i also rely on online information available like RT scores, Metacritic etc. Just because one is a liddo doesnt mean we have to blindly worship everything she releases like a sheep.

Goosebumps by Travis and Kendrick peaked at #32 yet is 15x platinum. I guess that's less impressive than Applause, cause what kind of placement #32 is.
