HMH it is not up to par for a Gaga ballad as its style over substance but still has cute organic streams like MR 

Joanne is a great album but I don't think it's in line with folklore. She's already done it before and I'd rather her try something new. Folklore isn't really this spectacular timeless art piece people hype it to be. Not hating but lyrically it's pretty on the nose like other pop girls who write "serious" music. If Gaga wants to truly challenger herself I'd love for her to meet a common ground between PJ Harvey's To Bring You My Love and Roisin Murphy's Moloko days

 

Gaga's theater vocals would suit these type of songs 

 

 

 

I still think she's going to serve a dance pop album for LG7 but if she wants to branch out to other areas in music in her 40s I would love for her to dive into trip hop or even alternative rock with her own modern twist if she's up for it.

Gags and Tay are not the same artists/songwriters at all so she really shouldn't attempt a folklore'd album. She could have a "folklore moment" as in another creative peak/magnum opus by reinventing herself authentically and focusing on what she excels at....just like Tay played to her strengths on folklore/evermore. And it always pays off.

Unfortunately, Gaga does not have a fanbase that would appreciate a true singer-songwriter album from her. :( What made Folklore so successful for Taylor was a fanbase that expects and appreciates songwriting from the creator. Even when Gaga tries to be authentic, if it is not what her fans want then it is called the opposite. 

 

(obviously not all Gaga fans are like this, but a big portion are)

The fanbase may not want more singer-songwriter tunes from Gaga but there's a reason Million Reasons and ASIB were successful.

 

Gaga never does the same thing twice so another album with that genre would sound different in the same way ASIB was different from Joanne.

 

I still have my money on LG7 being something we've never heard from her before. With Chromatica, Gaga had an incentive to do dance again given her American streak of Joanne and ASIB, but she has a clear runway now.

 

Something about her energy has shifted in a good way.

Exactly this. Taylor's core strength is storytelling in her lyricism, making something like Folklore a perfect fit for her. Gaga's strengths are stuff like her creativity, uniqueness, melodic writing, and performance abilities.

 

If Taylor was best served doing something that reestablished her position a widely respected songwriter, Gaga would be best served having an album that reinforces her position as an iconic auteur of pop music.

I can be mixed on Taylor's writing album-to-album, but she is a widely respected songwriter. That's just a fact irregardless of how any of us personally feel. 

 

As for Gaga not having potential in mainstream music, I just don’t see why not. Every album of hers has had a hit, she just had a huge viral hit that did well on radio, and her catalog is doing extremely well on streaming. Imo, she's in a better position than she's been in for most of the past decade. The idea that she can't be anything other than some has-been musically makes no sense and reeks of OGH logic.

nnnnn you're right for the most part but I disagree with the sentiment of the last paragraph.

 

Gaga is a mainstream act. She's likely going to finish this year, possibly earlier, with 5 songs having 1 billion streams, most of them having come from less than 5 years ago and 1 of them being a solo song. She also just had a viral hit THIS year. Her not churning out hits is a result of her not personally being hungry for hits like her peers are.

 

Yes, campaigns from her may get less splashier with time, but this is making her sound like she's Britney Spears'd/Katy Perry'd. I always reiterate that just because she's not on the appeal level of Beyonce, Taylor, Drake, etc. doesn't mean she doesn't have appeal at all.

A lot of fans don't realize this. The Joanne days were BRUTAL for her on streaming. I almost feel like LG7's lead has better hit potential now than Stupid Love did even coming out of the mega-era that was ASIB.
