But in all honesty that song did age poorly. I heard it the other day on my speaker and I almost snapped an elbow reaching for my phone to SKIP. Never thought I’d say that because I enjoyed it so much when it first came out but now I guess…. Not so much

idk if I'd say basic... but the outro really is one of the best parts of the song 

Rain On Me has a "basic" formula, but Gaga injects her signature Gagaisms into it which pulls it from being basic overall, imo.

Rain On Me is a great song that used a 1979 disco/funk sample in discreet yet effective way, it has a simple structure, like many songs it was inspired by (from 70s,80s and 90s dance/house music)but at the same time it has a classic Gaga feel to it as well which makes it timeless.

RoM was the most pleasing Gaga pure pop event since DWUW to me (talking about the song, not the psycho who embarked on this beautiful song).

I really agree, and so far it's been aging quite well. It's an easy-to-listen-to, pure pop song with no pretense or overwrought message. It makes sense coming from Gaga.
