It was the first song that the last generation heard, and it turned her into a superstar! 
 

There has to be some degree of separation of subjective opinion and the objective, generally-accepted rules of an art form when it comes to looking at art through a critical lens. 
 

For example, people often say that Moby Dick is one of the great American novels and that it contains “some of the most beautiful sentences ever written.” I couldn’t sit through it. I thought it was boring. I can say I didn’t like it, but by the generally-accepted rules of what constitutes good writing, it’s one of the greatest books of all time. So for me to say it’s not well-written, even though I hated it, would be a “wrong” opinion if opinions could be wrong. That’s all I’m trying to say. You can hate JD all you want, but you seem oddly baffled at the fact that other people view it as one of her best when, frankly, it objectively manages to both follows the rules of great pop songwriting and pushed them forward production-wise (at the time) simultaneously.

 

As far as the Kesha-level lyrics, there’s so much more to music than lyrics, especially pop. The lyrics need to be more digestible to be “well-written” for the masses.

I don’t even know what you’re talking about now. I don’t care that it’s viral on TikTok, nor do TikTok songs need to be well-written or poorly-written to be viral as that solely relies on a snippet that can be taken out of context from the song as a whole and turned into a meme. It’s beside the point completely
