What’s the TikTok trend that’s pushing JD?Last I saw it was a very difficult dance? Can’t imagine many people being able to emulate that.

She's usually so unproblematic and articulate in her speaking besides STILL not speaking on the Richie situation that it's wild to believe she said this, but I guess it was a different time.

The writing isn't her most complex, but it's a very well-written pop hit. Good melodic contrast within sections, really strong moving lines, short and sweet hooks. And the verses paint a perfect picture of a crazy house party/night out while still being memorable and tongue-in-cheek, which is the entire point of a verse for this sort of song. They create a scene around an instantly memorable chorus. As a writer and musician, good writing isn't automatically the most complex, metaphorical, or poetic/flowery. 

 

And the bridge is hands-down one of the best moments on the entire album. Without a doubt.

Also it's not a "very well-written pop hit". You could call it a lot of other things, and the way it's written doesn't make it "bad" per se, but well-written is just wrong.

How could a song that went number one on the merit of its music/lyrics alone - given it was a debut single and Gaga’s name held zero power or hype - not be well-written?

The melody of “Doo doo doo doo” is clearly an earworm, and the “jumbo fart” provides a bounce between the two spoken lines that evokes catchiness and keeps the listener engaged. I think you have a narrow view of what well-written means. The definition is certainly not one-sizes-fits-all. If Gaga was trying to write a song about the pain of food insecurity from the point of view of a struggling, overworked single mother trying to feed her kids, yes, Just Dance is not well-written. If she’s trying to write a song about dancing in a drunken haze at a nightclub, then I’d consider it very well-written. Considering it became a Diamond single and it was just her debut, when she had no fans, many others would agree.

Just becuase the lyrics fit the theme of the song doesn't make it good. There are also about 33 better songs about drunken dance club dancing.

I also gave three other reasons as to why it’s a well-written song that don’t have to do with it being on-theme. 
 

I mean all this stuff is subjective, but when you look at the rules of music theory, the success of the song, and the construction of it, there’s no denying that the craftsmanship displays a level of skill that is far from amateur. Whether you like listening to it or not is up to you.
