No. I think she could have taken those comparisons and conversations surrounding them and try to turn it into something positive so this new artist could feel like she had a friend in the industry. However, I cannot imagine what Madonna must have felt like having to deal with the "out with the old, in with the new" narrative and be treated like she (or any woman, really) is disposable and there is only room for one. I think on some level I can understand why she would feel like she needed to take ownership of what she felt like she was a part of, even if I don't think she needed to do that. I was going to say that the post is rich coming from her, but I think she is allowed to change for the better and I believe she has. edit: But I would totally understand if Gaga never fully trusted her, of course.
