I’ve resorted to listening to youtube instead of spotify while out and about. Why won’t she just release the live album? It’s not as if it can’t coexist alongside the film’s theatrical run. They’re distinct mediums

AMC must not share the same view and think the live album should only be released when no theater is showing the movie. Hence, if there is any chance people wants to listen to Bey live it's by purchasing a ticket.

I can only hope that's where their respective deal differentiate...

We can take into account the fact that the RWT is indeed over and that the Eras Tour will still be active for the most part of this new year!

But a TS fan would already have their tickets anyway, so it's not like a live album would make them say 'Mh... I think I'm gonna pass on this tour because I have the live album."

So I don't understand what they're doing! Let's hope 2024 will make sense marketing-wise, but given Bey's pattern, I think it might be a quiet year.

Much as Bey has power and autonomy, I've always felt that we (as fans) tend to overstate it. 

 

The reality of the matter is that when she gets into bed with these corporate companies, she's subject to **their** contractual terms. We saw it with Adidas (which is the only thing she got out of bed to do for a few years), Tiffany's had this woman doing shoots and commercials when she was off-season, so on and so forth.

 

Sometimes I think these companies do a lot with their dos and don'ts, but I also can totally see the logic of AMC possibly not wanting her to drop the live album before the VOD release. 

 

Bey does not have a TS fanbase who would sell a body part for her latest re-release (speak less a new project). So, I'd bet that there's data to support the reality that some stans will sooner stream the music for free and still manage to be apart of the "trending" discourse about the film online without ever having to engage with the long-form visual itself. Something which loses the production and entities attached $$$.

 

For that reason, it kinda makes sense to hold the live album (if at all it's coming) until the next available window for hype (which is the VOD release). 

 

I could even see this being a Parkwood-led move too tbh. For the outlined reasons above AND also to simply not be seen to be repeating the same moves. As dropping a live album alongside the film would have basically been her doing a Homecoming-like drop for what arguably is a Homecoming-like movie. At the end of the day, it's all marketing and the cleverest marketing IMO is reheating ish that ultimately isn't "new" format-wise and presenting it as if it is.

It's a nice lil extra. But as someone who has watched almost every tour date, went to the tour a few times myself, saw the movie, and loves a good fan-made YT "live studio version", there's not as much value in it for me at this point. 

 

More than anything, a live album now IMO puts us further and further away from a new project (Act 2)? Bey does not release projects within months of each other. And as a realistic Hive member, I can say with a degree of certainty that if she did, one or both would be unlikely to sell-sell because of oversaturation of the market / fatiguing her audience's wallet and attention-spend. 

 

So, looking at it from that lens, I'd happily do away with the notion of a live album if it means that she pushes on to the next "thing" sooner rather than later.

@Cbreezy she released 3 projects to streaming in 2019 and 1 in 2018. It’s not out of the question to get the live album and act 2 this year.

Im very fine with her being held to  contractual obligations. Even presidents and kings don’t have 100% autonomy. Plus she’s shrewd and well-positioned to have the best representation money can buy making sure she’s getting the best possible deal. None of her business partners have come out to sully her name, not even Adidas in spite of the fate of IP so it speaks to her integrity in business. If the live album is being held up by AMC, that’s cool. My main concern was the existence of one in the first place. We were all sure the era would be accompanied by visuals, yet here we are 1.5 years later. 
 

As for the hidden content, I don’t think any reasonable person expects a tour live album to move mountains. I wouldn’t even expect a physical release. Slap it on streaming platforms as a memento for stans a la homecoming. It’ll garner stan traction for a few days and stabilize for those that will revisit regularly.

...and, of those projects, none of them were successful-successful in the most commercial sense of the word. To my point, it's technically do-able and she for sure is not above doing it, I just think the data lends itself to the reality that it's not the most optimal thing to do for her brand-wise with the audience composition she has.

As for the combined aspect, I'd gladly take it...but I'll always point to what I took away from my communcation classes. Wherther music, film, TV, or even articles, it's always best to go with simple effective messaging. Overstacking, overcooking, and overpiling can see none of the indivisdual components hit "as" hard. 

Like, I'm struggling to see how all new music (Act 2), which would need and deserve it's own moment in the sun, can easily and effectively sit alongside a live album for the project before it, and visuals too. 

 

Even if she finds a savvy way to tie Acts 1 and 2 together, that's still....A LOT to digest and I legit think something like that would confuse tf outta the GP.

There's that rumour that they the film will be released on DVD/digital in Feb, so hopefully it is released alongside that as well to streaming.

 

I do see the point in not releasing it until the theatrical run is over though, not just because the WW release has been staggered, but even personally I may not have went back to see it a third time if I had the live album to keep me satisfied, and I think even for non-fans who may simply be going out of curiosity, if they want their curiosity satisfied, there'd be a clear choice to be made between being able to consume a live album on a streaming they've already paid for vs. a $20+ ticket.

The fact that at this point, it being 1.5 years since the era started, the RENAISSANCE era is one of her longest "eras" and she's done the least amount of traditional promo and we still have not ONE music video is pretty amazing, tbh. I know we've wanted different at times (at many times) but even some of the biggest eras of the past decade didn't continue on this long, and when they did, they were never still as exciting and qualitatively brilliant as something like the RENAISSANCE film.

 

There's something to be said for the way she has drawn out the era and how she could do so because she plainly and purely had great music as the basis for everything.
