Will Billboard end bundles?

Featured Replies

After Heartless - The Scootts - Rain On Me - Stuck With You - TROLLZ, it feels like the #1 is becoming a gimmick lately.

Remixes like Savage and Say So are also becoming more popular.

It feels like huge hits are not topping the charts anymore. From those singles, only Savage and ROM showed top 10 longevity. The most recent one, TROLLZ, is predicted to drop from the top 20 in the next week.

Will Billboard end bundles to avoid cheapening the #1 position even further?

Charts have always been cheap.  No matter what rules are added, there will be new tricks.  I really think it’s less bad now than it was in the 90s.

Stuff like jockstraps and an album need to be banned :toofunny3: like wtf. “Bundles” w music is completely different

People have been bundling merch with digital albums for years now, the jockstraps were shameless but it's not Gaga's fault for knowing her fanbase :michael:

they should calculate remixes separately first and then maybe they can think about bundles.

because letting original+ remix chart points combined sounds more fraud to me. when you compare it to the bundles.

I don't know about the others but I'm 99% sure that stuck with u "bundles" were cassettes, CDs and viniles, I don't know why they would invalidate pure sales just because fans like collecting stuff. They did have hoodies and stuff but that DID NOT include the single.

+ everyone can bundle their songs on their websites. no one is stopping artists doing that.

but when billboard letting fraud remixes chart with original songs with no other versions doesnt sound fair to me.

You guys are acting as if you can’t buy the items separately - they made it a rule. It’s a completely valid sale because someone is choosing to get the music with the bundle - and I believe they need to be redeemed or they don’t count.

I think they should limit how many versions of a song can contribute. Trollz had both alternate version as well as clean and explicit - there’s no need to do a different sale for each one.

labels have a new trick for every era. Back in the day they wouldn’t release physical singles until it peaked on radio basically giving artist a free #1. Don’t forget box club sales or whatever it was called.

:dies: I'm sure it does, LM.

OT: Yes, I'm sure they will change the rules again soon just like they did after some artists sold their album for $0.99.

yet no songs in the 90s went 1-OUT OF T10

they need to...next year

to make things fair they should allow everyone to game the system equally for at least the next year

yall hate nicki so much that you guys arent realising that this is bringing back pure sales which will benefit ATRL faves since they have been struggling with streaming. We just got a single to sell 116k in 2020, this should be celebrated......

this thread is not about nicki and she was not the one that thought of this strategy in the first place

nope! It’s literally creating healthy competition.  Not yall acting like digital sales and physical didn’t just carry the whole industry for DECADES :rip:  They’re not getting rid of it.

Ticket bundles? Merch bundles? Absolutely.  They can go (and should go).

What's with the obsession with bringing back pure sales? They're dead for a reason

Yeah. They need to end bundles so streaming can accurately reflect popularity.

6ix9ine bought those 69¢ copies of his 6 different versions with his 6 credit cards. :lmao:

And clearly sales are not actually being "brought back" when there are just songs here and there getting one big week before plummeting out.

If the bundle bonanza was helping the tide of music at all, we wouldn't have 19k, 16k, 14k, and 12k #1 sales weeks this year.

They need to find a way to force people to buy music. Get rid of streaming & just make albums cheaper. 7.99 or 6.99 since they make most of their  money touring how much the album is shouldn’t matter just get rid of streaming!

If you’re not willing to spend 6$ on your fav CD then that’s ratchet.

You out your damn mind if you think I'm going to stop paying $5 a month for all the music in the world at my disposal in order to spend that amount on every single album I want to listen to. Y'all pure sales stans are mentally ill :dies:

I don’t think so... Like someone said there have always been tricks to get songs a higher peak. I could see non-music related bundles getting axed (clothing, tour tickets), but as far as physical singles/digital downloads from their website? Nah.

This thread is in relation to trolls going number #1 the same day with bundles though....
