    There's no reason we have to stick to strictly calendar year lineups if there's a more compelling thematic hook. For example, the new Cool Britannia: Jade vs. PinkPantheress vs. Lola Young vs. Olivia Dean

    We put Chappell Roan in the '24 rate with a 2023 album, so there's precedent for it, yeah.

    Lola's album did come out this year (it was pretty good…). Honestly the UK girls kind of ourserved the American divas this time around.

    Plenty of precedent. There were a bunch of Madonna vs. Mariah vs. Janet vs. Kylie rates early on that grouped their albums generally by the era of their careers, even if the years didn't line up exactly. I had a really successful rate with 25, Anti, Joanne, Emotion: Side B and Glory, which spanned fall 2015 to summer 2016.

    If we're talking about female albums that people actually listened to in 2004, you're probably looking at something like:

     

    Feels Like Home vs. Under My Skin vs. Autobiography vs. Love. Angel. Music. Baby. vs. Breakaway vs. Destiny Fulfilled

     

    Can swap in for Anniemal for the Pitchfork set or, if we're going by original European release dates, maybe Unwritten or even VH1 fave Eye to the Telescope (though that phenomenon really didn't hit until the following year)
