RIP to Pazz & Jop! Was such a clean and beautiful way of setting the parameters for This Was…

 

Since its premature demise, I reconfigured the series around a more holistic method of considering critical acclaim, zeitgeist, sales, Grammy success, genre variety and even themes (like the all-female lineup for 2018). Especially when we are trying to come up with rates that will get ATRL excited, I think it’s fine to think broadly about how to define the year.
