Barbra's 1994 tour literally changed touring. "it shattered box-office records and redefined the economic ceiling for pop-diva arena shows." she's actually done so many things ATRL doesn't know/give her credit for cuz it's not dance-pop related. she was the biggest female box office draw of the 70s. she was the first woman to star in/direct/write/produce a studio movie. she's broken so many barriers for women.

She is the legend duh

Yes, that's why I said "even" because I acknowledge Celine was very successful in touring but not at this level.

Like both Celine and my fave (Madonna) were strong touring acts but they never came close to Barbra's individual grosses or ticket prices in the 90s or 2000s. Madonna's doesn't have any stadium date that has grossed more than than these Barbra arena shows

Color Me Surprised

Seeing Barbra live was like going to the World Cup or a championship sporting event. Not everyone could afford to see her live, and there's nothing wrong with that.

That is why I don't understand why Taylor Swift and Beyonce are called out for high ticket prices.

I think she was actually was one of the first 'main pop girls' during the shift to contemporary music fandoms

Pre-70s most of the famous female singers were still in the classical/opera world (think Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland, Birgit Nilsson)

Pre-70s had Dionne Warwick, Aretha, Nancy Sinatra, The Supremes, Connie Frances, Brenda Lee and others.

Her touring success has to do with the fact that she didn't perform live for 20 years but continued to be a force in popular culture, so people were BEGGING her to perform in concert but she kept turning it down. Once she finally did it was a MOMENT, resulting in those insane moments. She's one of the best vocalists of all time and everytime she toured people never knew if she would do it again so I think that's why they'd still buy tickets with those outrageous prices.
