I feel like this era just hasn't been as fun as BEAUTIFUL CHAOS.

Gnarly was so polarizing when it first dropped, but the live performances completely transformed how people experienced it. Then came Gabriela and eventually Gameboy, which were pure pop ear candy, and we got MIA.

Everything since BEAUTIFUL CHAOS feels like they're trying to recreate that same formula with Internet Girl and PINKY UP, but neither has landed the way Gnarly did. Animal isn't a bad song by any means...it just feels like a pretty big departure from everything they've been building toward.

Gnarly > PINKY UP
Gabriela > Animal

This song is so fuckin boring. Need their A&R to stop pushing full singles like this. Flesh out a lane and sound and commit to it. This has like no teeth for a song called animal either.

It's a good way to track which songs are being streamed before the official numbers drop the following day, although not everyone uses stats.fm. If I remember correctly, IBM performed quite a bit worse than this on stats.fm. Pinky Up reached around 300k streams, but IBM still debuted with more streams on Spotify.
