I can confirm that it was. Back in 2016 I overheard my mom talking with my dad and my brother and she was saying "I really enjoy Katy's music but after what she said about Mariah I just can't support her anymore. You don't talk about a legend like that". My dad responded "you didn't have to spill so hard..." while my brother said "and that's on period"

The interviewer suggested Mariah was the biggest female singer in the world, and ofcourse at the time in 2014-2015 that wasn't true in any capacity. Katy saying that wasn't wrong, and Katy flopping after didn't make it less true.

Quite literally the same as if someone suggested Katy is the biggest female artist today. Yall wouldn't be on someone's throat for years and paint them as a mean girl for simply refuting that and saying Katy is now more nostalgic.

Mariah Carey is still the biggest female artist of all time in USA when you consider overall units. It was true in 2014 and it's still true. Only Taylor Swift will surpass her.

Not siding with Kesha was her biggest mistake. Kesha ended Katy's career tbh.

1. That was an interview on an Australian Morning Show, so all time US success isn't even relevant.

2. They were talking about the biggest female artist currently, the hosts suggested it was Katy and she actually was humble and replied "no it's not me Beyonce is". She wasn't even boosting herself up in that interview.

Mariah was releasing an album around that time, 2013–14, so she wasn't a retired artist, it was an unnecessary shade.
