  1. Below is the pamphlet that Madonna inserted into copies of the Like A Prayer album in 1989. In doing so, she made a political statement of monumental proportions. Madonna has always fought for our community even when it wasn't popular. She was there, in the trenches with authenticity, during one of the most traumatic periods in queer history. She put queer people in her music videos and films, and on stage in her tours. She talked about them openly in the media. She didn't apologize for it. Madonna helped queer people overcome stigma and gain mainstream acceptance. These were the kinds of interviews she was giving: Madonna stood for something meaningful, took unpopular social and political positions that put her career at risk because it was the right thing to do, truly changed culture - and the world - for the better, and still pumped out blockbuster sales for decades. Taylor Swift sold a lot of records and stayed as apolitical and safe as possible to enrich herself. Taylor Swift cannot relate.
  2. The quote Nicki used is misattributed to Marilyn. But here's one she did say: "I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves. They didn't bother to find out who and what I was. Instead they would invent a character for me. I wouldn't argue with them. They were obviously loving somebody I wasn't." - Marilyn Monroe
  3. She's on the Brandi Glanville trajectory. I miss the days when celebrities didn't botch their faces and transform into entirely different people to look "younger". The irony is, they rarely look younger. And they sure don't look like themselves.
  4. It's common to combine album versions and radio edits when calculating artists' stream counts, and in many cases such versions have been merged. It is arbitrary - for a while, the album version and radio edit of All For You were merged, and then subsequently unmerged on Spotify's stream counts. This song reached 100M streams in July. The album version reached 100M streams today.
  5. I love how the EU and Canada announced a move toward a formal alliance today and American news is leading with "OMG TRUMP IS DEMOLISHING THE KENNEDY CENTER!". Do Americans realize that the rest of the world is moving on?
  6. I seriously doubt he said that. Makes for a headline, though.
  7. The comparisons her fans make to Marilyn Monroe are hilarious and an insult to everything Monroe stood for, and to her talent and singularity.
  8. Trump trialing universal basic income? What a socialist!
  9. Someone to Call My Lover reached 100M weeks ago as the album version (98.7M) and single edit (5.38M) are not merged.
  10. Aftersun is better than any Ridley Scott movie, so Paul wins.
  11. In international theatres Nov. 4 and US/Canada Dec. 11. Album out Nov. 6. "I suppose what Faith meant to me was life was still going to deliver." Burst into tears watching that as I felt the heaviness of that line. He was such a monumental talent, killed by homophobia and the closet. I was lucky enough to be front row for his TwentyFiveLive tour and it was an otherworldly experience. His voice was a miracle.
  12. The real test for Pierre is whether he loses Brantford to the Liberals.
  13. There is no problem. Trump has decided he wants to annex Canada because we dare stand up to him. With every comment and tweet from the administration, Americans reveal themselves as even bigger assholes. This kind of bullshit from Hegseth, as well as the recent comments from Bessent, dishonour all Canadians who fought and died alongside Americans in many wars. Never again. I don't think Americans understand how angry, insulted and hurt Canadians are - and that is not going away.
  14. I hope they replace him with Naomi Campbell for a real kii.
  15. Because she has all the ingredients for success but none of the vision or magic that superstars require. I like Zara and think she is exceptionally talented. But there's not one interesting, unique or differentiating feature about her or her music, and she lacks the artistic ambition that is needed to overcome this basic constraint.
  16. OK, for argument's sake, let's say this happens and the US quietly tries to hide this under the rug and at least succeeds in doing so domestically. (For the record, I don't think this is realistic.) In this case, the longer-term problem for the country is that no one else in the world will forget or forgive. You don't get to **** up at this scale as a country and not pay dearly for it. The price will be paid in the decline, and the only possible path to stopping this decline is true accountability for all the corruption, pain and criminality that has been endured under Trump. And I doubt that will ever come.
  17. If someone asked me what the best pop song of all time was, I'd probably default to this. It hooks you from the first beat and never lets go, and it never gets old. To this day, there's nothing else that sounds like it. It's a true original. The Brit Awards performance is so iconic.
  18. #3 on the Hot 100 and one of her transitional hits before TEOM era. Such a smooth jam. Mariah's sixth song, and Busta's fourth, to surpass this milestone.
  19. "A sex symbol is a heavy load to carry when one is tired, hurt, and bewildered." - Clara Bow
  20. I hope she has found peace. She's always reminded me of Marilyn, where people fell in love with her patina and didn't bother to see or understand the woman beneath it. "I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves. They didn't bother to find out who and what I was. Instead they would invent a character for me. I wouldn't argue with them. They were obviously loving somebody I wasn't." - Marilyn Monroe
  21. You can trace Britney back to this moment. Absolutely iconic song and video, and some of the best choreography in pop music. There is still no other song that sounds like If. She said let me make an industrial R&B record with *****graphic lyrics and turn it into a smash. ("Your smooth and shiny feels so good against my lips, sugar" in a mainstream pop song in 1993? What?) The energy of this song is insane.
  22. The wrong 80-year-old with a name starting with "D" died.
  23. Whether or not you like Carney, his speech at Davos was both truthful and accurate, as the insanity and instability that America continues to foist on the entire globe has only intensified. And whether or not Trump hates Carney or his party (for whatever reason) is irrelevant given that Trump hates anyone who stands up to him, and stands up for what is just. Canada is rightfully speaking up, as it should, and not capitulating to American bullies. Choosing supplication and appeasement is not a solution when dealing with people like Trump. And courage is contagious. There is no one in the CPC who has Carney's credentials, and given that a traitor like Jamil Jivani is permitted to remain in caucus, I'm confident there is no member of the CPC who could be doing a better job than Carney. There is an absolute dearth of talent in that party at this time, and none of them have the global reach or experience that Carney brings, and that are essential to meet this moment.
