Miranda Lambert - 'Crisco'

Featured Replies

warily perched. feels kinda late for country/disco ?

Do you think she has to pay the brand to use the name? It's a **** album title regardless.

I'm really enjoying this country + disco vibe from this era.

"Sunset Marquis" is so cute.

Miranda Lambert reveals Ella Langley duet on 'Snakeskin B...

Miranda Lambert reveals Ella Langley duet on 'Snakeskin Boots' from her upcoming album Crisco. Tune in for the premiere!

Three-time Grammy winner Miranda Lambert is revealing another layer of Crisco, her highly anticipated album arriving October 2nd via MCA, with the announcement that fellow firebrand Ella Langley is the featured artist on "Snakeskin Boots," the album's opening track. The cinematic, retro-Western track will make its world premiere at country radio on October 2nd.

Built with the swagger of late-'60s cinematic Westerns and the attitude of Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang," "Snakeskin Boots" opens Crisco with a larger-than-life story of a woman who knows exactly how to make her escape. Lambert and co-producer Jesse Frasure drew inspiration from the era's dramatic, stylized soundscapes, creating a track that could soundtrack a Quentin Tarantino film as easily as it could fill a dance floor at Studio 54.

I hope so! This era is so underperforming and has no buzz. Maybe a feature with Ella could help.

Rolling Stone 4/5

Over the 12 tracks on Crisco, the Grammy-winning country star — more effervescent, loose, and ballsy than ever — shoots down any preconceived notions about who Miranda Lambert is and exactly what kind of country music she makes. Yes, she's been the vengeful country rocker, most infamously on 2007's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. She's looked inward too, leaving behind the mainstream for the alt-country brilliance of 2016's double album The Weight of These Wings. And she's done her share of pop experimentation, releasing irresistible gems like "Baggage Claim," "Bluebird," and "Drunk (And I Don't Wanna Go Home)," with Elle King.

Pitchfork 6.8/10

It's smooth sailing on the country star's new album, a spotless approximation of late-'70s country disco with thoughtful string arrangements and an appearance from protégé Ella Langley.

Miranda Lambert: Crisco

Read Alfred Soto's review of the album.

The Pitchfork review is really good and full of praise, I just don't get why the rating is relatively low.

phenomenal album it's very cohesive and right up my alley but my only complaint is i wish there were one or two songs with different sounds or went full on disco

  • 2 weeks later...

6.8 is pretty accurate. Snakeskin Boots, Crisco, Cowgirl Curtsy, Cuttin' Onions and I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song are all truly excellent and then... well, there's the rest of the album. Nothing really bad but just fine. Postcards from Texas was kinda perfect so this is a big step down for me.

She really did nail the mixing of country and disco. Some songs do start to meld together but the album is very cohesive and I like that she experimented with a sound she never really did before.

After a few listens, I can say it's definitely not her best, but it's still a pretty decent album. The whole disco-meets-country idea is great and finally brings something fresh to her career without losing her country roots. The lyrics aren't really the album's strong point, but she still does a good job. I really loved the production on some tracks, especially "Snakeskin Boots" and "Right Where We Left It."

My faves so far are probably "To Everything," "Snakeskin Boots," and "Sunset Marquis." Least fave is "Cowgirl Curtsy."

This might be an unpopular opinion, but "Platinum" is actually my least favorite album of hers, and honestly, I think "Crisco" is a better album.
