Because, obviously, Adele didn't need people buying 20 copies of the same album to get it, and it shows because people continued to buy her album the following weeks. Even after week 2 she was already ahead again in total sales so the "record" ultimately meant nothing. In the long run the record - like pretty much all of them that stans choose to brag about for some insipid reason - was simply valueless.
