Will Lizzo ever find herself artistically again?

With the latest announcement of her new album Bitch, it seems like Lizzo really is trying to garner any attention that she can get. Personally, I feel like Lizzo has absolutely no idea where to go sonically, and it feels like she’s just throwing stuff at the wall. Prior to Truth Hurts blowing up in 2019, Lizzo was a niche pop artist/rapper known for her lyrics about body positivity and overall confidence. This worked for a while and her 2 mainstreams album performed well. Cuz I Love You had several hits and Special did alright, especially since About Damn Time went viral on TikTok and also won a Grammy.

However in the years since then, specifically after the allegations from her backup dancers in 2023, it seems like Lizzo has really lost her way musically. In early 2025, she started a rock pivot that went absolutely no where. She released 2 songs, did promo on radio shows and tv shows like SNL, but nobody cared about her music. She said in an interview for New York magazine that she sat her label down to tell them she was shelving the “Love In Real Life” album, but it was probably the other way around.

During the summer of 2025, Lizzo pivoted back into more rap music and got a viral TikTok moment with a remix to a song called “Whim Whamiee”. However, by the time the song got formally released, it went nowhere. Additionally she dropped an entire mixtape, with 13 songs and features from Doja Cat and SZA, and people cared even less. And if that wasn’t bad enough, she dropped a deluxe version with 9 more tracks that nobody really cared about either.

I think the issue is that Lizzo won’t commit to an entire sound unless she’s receiving positive feedback about it right away. Immediately pivoting away from rock n roll after 2 song flops shows that she’s lacking in artistic integrity. It seems like she’s chasing any trend just to have a shred of the popularity that she used to have.

What do you all think?

She found herself artistically about a decade ago, idk what happened after but she should've stayed there

Lizzo linked her self worth to her public image and has no idea how to exist without that

If she is able to make art that is detached from her ego, and her hunger to be relevant, then she will find success again. But until then everything she does will feel desperate.

Will she be addressing all of the allegations that have been made against her because if she isn't I am not interested.

IMO she should focus on a super brutal honest album about herself. Whatever genre that may be. I agree that she been releasing the most random music hoping something sticks. But if she wants a real comeback she needs to actually pick something and stick to it. Regardless of commercial success.

She's "reclaiming her flaws, being proud of her mistakes and not letting others dictate her story" so… expect a lot of songs about haters hating and her being human and such

So the same song she's been making for 10 years

her commercial breakthrough had really obvious flaws from the start, i don't think she had a strong identity. i can't speak to her projects from before that though, i know she used to be an indie girl. she has talent but no foundations to her career or artistry, it was never going to last.

what's her demo? the music before was essentially soccer moms but they won't commit. she won't get a younger straight fanbase and she alienated the gays with her response to the allegations and her music in general doesn't appeal much to the queer audience. everything is off from the business perspective and she doesn't offer much in the art/quality front either.

The attention got to her ego and started to overshadow the music. When she said the music was going to sound like James Brown, Funkadelic, Jimi Hendrix and what not, and it sounded like an Ed Sheeran song deadbanana

Then she resorted to rage bait music. Sorry, but that's the last move you pull before you're over for good.

The thing is I actually think she could do so well on actual funk/rock inspired music, but then she wouldn't have the immediate numbers and feedback she wanted. It would've benefitted her in the long run, people wouldn't have rolled their eyes at her so much and maybe stayed interested instead. I would've tuned in if that was the kind of music she actually was making. She could've sustained a following and a fanbase too.

She could've also continued in disco/electro funk route and it would've been great because a track like this is so good and fun. She could branch out to many dance genres from that as well, like house or garage. I think 80s synth pop style music could've fitted her as well.

There were many possibilities for her, but she chose bling not the music.

She was too annoying to have longevity. Too extra.
I dont think music killed her career. It was her personality and vanity giraffe
