Well a lot of it has never been so ethical but it's not only anthropology and it's probably fine now.

anthropology used to engage in questionable tactics, but that was in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, especially when it was practiced by hacks who called themselves scientists without having actual credentials.

these days, rigorous training, ethical methodologies, and thorough field practices are part of very anthropologist's graduate training. so the answer to your question is no.

Knowledge of personal biases and cultural relativism is one of the biggest parts of graduate training in anthropology nowadays, so it's certainly come a long way. It is, many anthropologists just use, intrude on and exploit their communities to create problems based on western views. For example, no indigenous group here has ever complained about problems like "cultural appropriation", but rather about shelter, food and respect for their culture. It is delicate to make their problems "white" and to adopt a "superior" posture, assuming that you have a lens that explores and understands human nature better than everyone else. Like the white savior complex but on an intellectual level.
