Stupid Love at least has some self awareness in how silly it is. ROAR is gives junior high dance team- it's corny while also taking itself seriously.

SL can at least be fun in some concepts, Roar is never fun to listen to

Roar is a million times better than SL or Applause too, just saying

Stupid Love

It might be an unpopular opinion but I actually think a lot of the hate for Stupid Love comes from the fact that it just wasn't what most people wanted from a lead single from Gaga at that point. Had it been left as an album track I think people would view it more warmly.

Roar is objectively the better pop song but I personally would rather listen to Stupid Love.

I agree with this. It's not a good flag bearer for Chromatica generally but it's fun.

Are we recreating the archives since they got taken down?

Roar may be basic but it at least gives you that pop euphoria.

Stupid Love has a sort of harshness about it, and feels like a retread more than her stepping forward. I mean having a lyric like "I want your stupid love" as the main phrase after one of your iconic songs having the line "I want your bad romance" (and "stupid" being a negative adjective like "bad" and "love" being a synonym for "romance"). It's a little too copy-and-paste.

Whatever you have to say about Roar and Brave, at least it was new in Katy's discography.

Yes I would agree. Both seem to have got the tone wrong for what she should be doing in that moment of her career. In Artpop's case, post-attention-grabbing-antics and preceding an era where those antics became stranger and unsettling, the way she broke the fourth wall was always a bit off-putting to me.

In some way it is a successor to the theme of "The Fame", but without the delicious hedonism and audacity. In its place was a tone of near-desperation (not saying she was, but that the lyrics and production gave that feeling). I would have loved Venus as a lead. I think it could have better visually solidified the branding and concept of the album through its music video, as if she was portraying herself as Venus but through the lens of many different art movements (Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionistic, Cubist, Post-Modern, etc.), and if we want something more unique sounding in her catalogue for this very unique album, putting out a mid-tempo like Artpop would have been amazing and fresh.
