Why can't certain stans understand this simple concept?

Featured Replies

Having a couple hit songs and/or albums =/= major star power and quality. What guarantees a hit is not even often based on the artist themselves, but the content resonating with the GP. People mistakingly think a hit has something inherently to do with the name itself when time and time again this is not the case and yet many still don't understand this. clack

i don't know but i feel like i needed to help so i reported all of gracie abrams' social media accounts

Tea.

Debuts say much more about raw star power and name recognition. Hits have much more to do with the actual music.

With that said, having the platform and exposure to kick off a song is hugely advantageous. There are many songs that could have been hits with the right exposure and probably hit songs that would've struggled to build from the ground up with an unknown artist.

Like most things, the truth is somewhere in-between.

Welcome to the age of social media, where everyone believes they know everything and are an expert in their so-called "field".

Yeah, for almost all hits, it's the song itself that is connecting with people, independent of the artist. This is why there are so many one hit wonders.

An artist's star power, has more to do with their ability to capture the public's attention. People like Selena Gomez or Kim Kardashian have a lot of "star power" and can get a lot of attention to whatever they are doing.

A strong legend in music will (1) be able to create and perform songs that, given the right catalyst, can take off on their own and then (2) use their star power to draw attention to that song and provide the necessary catalyst.

To provide some examples look at Ariana Grande in 2024. She had two number one hits that performed very differently. They both debuted at number one demonstrating the artist's star power. However, the divergence afterwards come mostly from how the song itself has resonated with people.

Another example would be the divergence between Taylor's Fortnight and Ophelia. High debuts (star power), different longevity (resonance of the songs themselves).

True but having huge names attached to it would guarantee at least a stellar initial chart run

A big streaming hit or two doesn't guarantee that an artist can also sell tickets for a tour. Look at how Ava Max and Ice Spice have been struggling lately and even their tours were not even all that big ones nor were they charging exorbitant amounts. It's clear that they don't have enough of an identity for people to actually stan for them and spend even a few dollars to see them perform.

We know.

Actually, I think seeing if an artist is capable of generating discussion despite not getting a hit song/album is the best way to identify star power.

when THE SONG is released it will be a hit no matter what but when u release the wrong song it will also be a fop no matter what. even with a huge push.

BUT when u release an "ok" song it will do nothing for a less known artist but it can be a hit if the artist is known enough

that is the diffence that put famous names in a better position.

DWAS vs Stupid Love, Disease, Abra. If the song is good it'll be a hit with the GP and serve longevity.
