I agree with you.. especially in the last few years it's all about the algorithm and autoplay. Songs didn't last as much at their peak like nowadays... also the fact that a bunch of songs fall on their second days then they magically stabilize or rise the week after. All the weird updates on the first of each month when they update the autoplay algorithm.. it's a mess

Everything went downhill after this... a lot of fans of certain artists brag about their fave's recurrent streams but if you check on spotify radio they appear with multiple songs compared to others who never appear

I don't, no. Something isn't adding up. Everyone hates pop, but everyone loves it to where the streaming numbers are just astronomical? I think the numbers are fabricated to a certain degree, looking at the overall bigger picture. I feel like they should be fluctuating a lot more. They're too consistent.

No…..but it isn't because i think they're fraud or anything, it's because these numbers can be easily influenced by playlisting and autoplay.

Maybe 7-8 years ago when Spotify wasn't as big, you could say autoplay wasnt so rampant, but now every music company seems to be fighting for high positions on as many big playlists as possible, so it's difficult to know which songs are organically connecting with maximum amount of people compared to the ones which are being aggressively pushed through everyone's algorithms.

Yes, there's no reason to think they're fake. Spotify and Youtube need to pay labels for every stream and they're not giving away money for nothing. If anything it's in their best interest to make sure that every stream is made by a human. 

There's a valid discussion to be had about streaming but not by a hive member taking a not-so-sneak OGH angle lmao

I'm American the only streaming numbers I have deep investment in is from Nielsen about TV shows lmao. 

 

All audio consumption can be fraudulent,it is what it is. Kpop Demon Hunters is a global smash hit film and the music is following,there's nothing suspicious about its general popularity.

You can easily trace back if a song is a hit, how play listing or autoplay affects it, and how much it helps an album.

Karol had a stadium tour and has been a star in the Latin community for several years.

 

Sabrina just last year had her mainstream breakthrough, Dua's current tour will blast past $200m and Gaga's past $300m despite being mostly arena tours

No. We already know about bot accounts, buying positions on playlists, etc. Everything is fake. Spotify is the worst thing to happen to music, they're a shady company that knowingly lets fraud occur. If they can clear bot plays months after the fact, they can clear them immediately. Having a zero cost barrier of entry doesn't help. You don't see fraud on Apple Music because you have to pay for it.

We've had huge and beloved musicals brefore like The greatest showman or Wicked, and it's songs don't go viral on mainstream charts...
