8 NEW SONGS OMG

you know all said, it simultaneously does make sense and makes so little sense that she has a cult fanbase. none of the mainstream pop girls, when doing deluxes these days, go all out with no remixes but 8 NEW f*cking songs  like it's actually so commendable that Lights always gives such interesting extra content in her eras, she just knows so well how to tie things together. from the acoustic and stripped down projects to the comic books to being an instagram baddie to this era's dueling music videos to f*cking MORE than an EP's worth of new songs as part of her deluxe album… she just gets it! it makes sense that Canada (which is obviously more tasteful than the US, that's no shocker) would be receptive to her and that several of her early singles would be hits, but she's really just a Kesha/Kylie/Gaga level of pop artist who remains prolific regardless of being super famous. the mainstream doesn't deserve her but at the same time there are at least 3 songs on every single album of hers that were never singles that easily could've smashed in an ideal world. I mean when Up We Go and Running with the Boys are some of the best pop singles of the 2010s, yeah, but then there's songs like Slow Down and Muscle Memory which are greater pop songs than most #1 hits from 2014. it's a little insane to think about  I adore Kimbra, but Lights kinda became what I was expecting Kimbra to continue being after The Golden Echo if that makes sense. just an A+ pop artist who isn't afraid to experiment and who always feels authentically no one but herself
