She has a point about the best art being divisive - it has to evoke some emotions, whether it be positive or negative If it makes you feel nothing it's a bad sign

  • Shes extremely annoying

we do agree. why would singing with autotune make u a fraud when its acceptable in the song/album.
do male artists (especially rappers) get the same criticism?

She is right.

I think the bias isn't that an artist uses auto tune as an artistic choice but more targeted by the kind of music they put out. Bon Iver comes to mind immediately. He uses auto tune in his music and he's widely regarded as someone with a lot of artistic integrity despite that. Since Charli puts out dance oriented music, her use of auto tune is going to inherently be regarded as "less" accepting to a wider audience and therefore regarded as a less than artist but people who don't engage with her music.

She's absolutely correct, she should say it, and we love her for that and that for her. Charli is an eminently talented artist and just because she doesn't have a particular tool at her disposal doesn't make her lesser when she makes up for it and then some with the rest of how she creates. In her case, tools like autotune actually add to the feeling of the work since so much of it is done in spaces that are already artificial, mechanical, even futuristic, but in ways that still let authenticity shine through the artifice.

She's right, I don't care if you sing with autotune or not if the music is good I'm sat :clap3:

but to be honest… i enjoy the discourse. imo the best art is divisive and confrontational and often evolves into truly interesting culture rather than being like kind of ok, easily understood and sort of forgettable.

That part is true.

When you overuse autotune even for artistic creations it's just boring and repetitive imo, feels like singing in the same tone and register for a whole album.

and the fact that she talks like a zoomer/chronically online person makes me cringe to the core.

'Being like kind of ok and forgettable' get Disgracie for me!

In my opinion she's right and auto tune can add to a song if it's used right.

However, criticisms about her repetitive and often immature lyrics are valid too. It's really hard to compare her to a current strong lyricist (since she's admitting she's not a vocalist) like Billie or Lorde given how "brat" isn't exactly groundbreaking from a lyric standpoint.

she's never claimed to be a great vocalist and her voice has never been the focus of her art. i couldn't care less if she doesn't sing live, i don't go to charli for vocal talent

She made some great points, and well... that's how an ACTUAL artist talks about her work.

This is why I can't stand him in exile and evermore. The autotune is just grating. It's like listening to sound of silence by disturbed

 :clack:

When a SINGER can't SING the public are allowed to state that FACT.

The way you randomly capitalized the title ("Charli Discusses her Artistry") made me think she was releasing a documentary with that name or something and I thought it was so cringe :deadbanana2:

Anyway, fixed title.

charli is as good a singer as trailor FACT

She is 100% right, but I really wish she would work on her vocals so she can shut people up.

lyrics on apple, i think about it all the time or symphaty is a knife are on par if not better than what billie writes lmao. just cause she makes cinematic sounds doesn't make her a poet. whole point of brat was a mix of vulnerable and hedonistic. it's not 15 club classics.
