Vulnicura by Björk

Came to post exactly this

Surprised no one said I Never Learn by Lykke Li yet. That album is devastating and such a hard listen for me because it stayed with me while I was passing through some of my heardest times, but it's an absolute masterpiece.

What's with the TTPD hate? It's actually quite sad and depressing?
So Long, London

loml

I Hate It Here

The Prophecy

Peter

all devastating. @Taylor fanboy would agree!

For me personally I find folklore a lot more impactful

Losing him was blue, like I'd never known

Missing him was dark gray, all alone

Forgetting him was like trying to know

Somebody you never met

But loving him was red

Loving him was red

Can't they both be sad? Like, TTPD is objectively sad.

I never said TTPD couldn't be sad lol calm down

songs for you by tinashe was lyrically quite depressing in parts; the demise of a public relationship that she wasn't over yet and the subsequent backlash she was going through during 2018…people forget but she was a bit of a punching bag online for a few years :rip:

Javelin by Sufjan Stevens literally got me in a very dark headspace for like 3 days after I listened to it :dies:

King of musique tho!

oh yeah this album sounded amazing but it just got me feeling so depressed so i never really listened to it much afterwards :deadbanana:

felt the same way after halsey's last album

Nick Drake - Pink Moon

Lana Del Rey - Honeymoon

Marina + The Diamonds - The Family Jewels

White Chalk by PJ Harvey

Far and Begin To Hope by Regina Spektor

Laura Marling I Speak Because I Can, A Creature I Don't Know and Short Movie are all pretty sad.

The Bride and The Haunted Man by Bat For Lashes

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant

Anything by Anohni l/ Anohni and the Johnsons.

Kelly Clarkson's My December has some heavy ones, and even the 'relaxed' songs come from a dark place, and the way it closes with Irvine... :monkey:

Spoiler

I know there's Chivas hidden, but Irvine is my last one s:wan:

my own EP Ice in Their Laughter is super depressing cause I was #suicidal and also wanted to #killmyself while I was writing it cause I had just gotten out of the longest relationship I've ever had and I was on some f*cked up meds and was failing all my classes in college. anyway, I ate, even though I didn't know that mastering existed at that point in my life. I was 20, I was cute, and I was so unhappy and said so much f*cked up sh*t to everyone in my life. I alienated people. I'm proud of this EP :gaycat2:

I've never again been nearly as depressed for so long as I was when I made that EP^

anyway! some other answers for you

- My December by Kelly Clarkson

- Now You Are One of Us by The Paper Chase

- Geek the Girl by Lisa Germano

- Blue Banisters by Lana Del Rey

- The Idler Wheel… by Fiona Apple

- Pirates by Rickie Lee Jones

- Heathen by David Bowie

- 30 by Adele

- I Am a Bird Now by Anohni & the Johnsons

- Vulnicura by Björk

- Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette

- The Moon & Antarctica by Modest Mouse

From all my western faves the saddest is probably GAG Order-Eat The Acid by Kesha.
The album's implications: the sexual abuse, the mental abuse, being financially trapped by her abuser for decades, and having her music career destroyed by it...........But I love how it ends with a good, happy ending.. After so much pain she's no longer suffocated-asphixiated

From my international faves. Guilty by Ayumi hamasaki
Her career was slowing down and flopping. Her best friend died by suicide. Her longtime boyfriend dropped her. She went totally deaf in one ear.
Its one of the harshest, rockiest pop albums i ever heard. All her pain is in this album.

^^^ 'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT' is genuinely one of the most cathartic break-up albums i've ever listened to, we literally see Taylor break down throughout the whole project ('Down Bad', 'I Can Do It With A Broken Heart', 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived', 'The Black Dog')

The album does have happy songs like 'The Alchemy' or 'So High School', but the project literally is about lowest lows and how Taylor overcomes them.

That's one of the many reasons i love this album sm :gaycat4:

i love how the color palette is white-white and black and it reflects the dreary letargic tone of the record
we sometimes see white as a color of purity, sophistication, spirituality and soft things but is also a color of bleakness and sadness
sometimes when u breakup thats how it feels. youre in white. youre blank
the album visuals suit the songs really well
