The ex-girlfriend of a male idol has been sentenced to one year in prison, suspended for two years, after being indicted for threatening him using a ST they filmed together. She was found to have expl**ted the idol's career vulnerabilities, saying things like, "Quit being an idol, looks like the only road left for you is the military," in an attempt to force him out of the entertainment industry.

Seoul Eastern District Court's Criminal Division 12 (Judge Lee Jung-hyung presiding) sentenced the defendant, referred to as "A," to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of S** Crimes (threat using filmed materials) and for property damage. The court also ordered her to complete 40 hours of a s** violence treatment program and imposed a four-year employment restriction from institutions involving children, teenagers, and persons with disabilities.

According to the verdict, A and the victim, male idol "B" (26), were in a romantic relationship from around November 2020 to March 2022, approximately 1 year and 4 months. After their breakup, A began using ST filmed during the relationship to threaten B.

The first instance of blackmail occurred on December 10, 2021, at approximately 1:47 PM. A created a Twitter account using the victim's face photo and sent the account link to him via text, along with the message:
"Quit being an idol. The only path left for you is the military, [name]. Sue me if you can,"
attached with a ST of the two. This was a direct exploitation of the fact that male idols face limitations in their careers due to mandatory military service, making the threat particularly damaging given his profession.

The second threat came on January 4, 2022, at around 4:16 PM. A sent another text saying:
"I'll post all our photos and tag you. That's good enough, right? If you won't talk to me, I'll just go all out. Sue me. Got it? I'll make an account and upload all our pictures and videos, and tag them. Answer me, you f*ing b**. Not answering calls, quitting KakaoTalk like that."

This was a direct threat to post intimate photos and videos on social media, something that could be devastating to a public figure like an idol.

A's actions didn't end there. On December 31, 2021, at around 6:39 PM on a road in Buk-gu, Gwangju, during an argument with the victim, A threw and damaged his phone. The damage required repair costs.

In sentencing, the court highlighted the seriousness of the case. The judge stated:
"Each of these crimes involved the defendant threatening the victim, her former romantic partner, with the distribution of videos filmed during s**** activity in order to block his future. The gravity of the offense is not light."
The court particularly emphasized that, because the victim was an idol, the threat of leaking such videos posed an especially severe risk to his career and life.

The victim was found to have suffered significant psychological trauma from the incident. The court acknowledged,
"The victim appears to have experienced serious mental distress, including feelings of betrayal, anxiety, shame, and discomfort."
Given the victim's status as a celebrity, the psychological impact was likely even greater than it would have been for an ordinary person.

Because they are, lol. Let's not kid ourselves, k-pop idols have very little chance to actually be spontaneous on camera, giving interviews is part of the k-pop training too and XG is probably helped by the fact they come from a different system with a different culture.
