I know some of the users in here are fuming...

it's so crazy to me how NCT is the only SM group that never smashed with the GP despite receiving the most support from the company 

 

at least they have a massive and dedicated fanbase

Hmm there's an argument for saying NCT Dream kinda did well with the GP...but the other units, no.

 

But I think for SM, the success of NCT was (eventually) found in their physical sales and touring. There are multiple female acts in SM who have had far better digital performance and NCT failed to reach that level.

nct dream's only GP success was a cover of H.O.T's legendary hit 

 

and yea i agree with the second part. i think NCT found their purpose with their big fanbase. they even have tons of fans in korea. it's just that the GP doesnt give a **** weirdly  so in a way they still won

True, but we all know that SM's cover songs don't always smash and it did significantly better than basically any other NCT single (though still nowhere as good as hits by SM's female idols).

 

I agree, the wider GP definitely doesn't care about NCT but part of that is the general situation these days of BGs not connecting with the public in the same ways as GGs do (with rare exceptions). NCT's concept didn't help either.

what is insane to me is that NCT are definitely famous in korea. they have tons of fans and it's chaos when they appear in public. i think they have the most domestic fans among boy groups atm (with maybe the exception of bts but they're not active these days) so they clearly appeal to koreans. but somehow their songs almost all bombed into oblivion  you could say it's because of how it sounds but they definitely have GP friendly sounding title tracks too... so maybe it's their concept and the way there's too many members...
