I don't fully agree with this take, especially considering that JYP has shown clear favoritism within TWICE as well. There's definitely a hierarchy in the group, with Nayeon and Jihyo being noticeably more favored compared to the rest. In my opinion, exposure in group songs matters way more than anything else, and both Nayeon and Jihyo consistently get more lines, screen time, and center positions in TWICE's songs. Just look at the huge difference in exposure between someone like Dahyun and Nayeon for, example.

Honestly, even Miss A was a lot more balanced when it came to how exposure was distributed among the members in their songs.

well nayeon is the center and the lead vocalist, so there's a reason why she gets so much attention (and it works). tzuyu also got a lot of early on, but that quickly faded away. jyp didn't promote the girls individually during their early days (unlike other labels), and focused on promoting them as a whole group instead for some reason... (suzy effect)

and jyp definitely pushed suzy .. the other girls literally sang this (:rip:still giggling at this .. like wth):

My name is not Suzy

But when you mistakenly keep calling me Suzy

I should've known then

SM was so dumb for declining the offer for

Architecture 101 (breakout movie for Snoozy) and Train to Busan :rip: but she still won at the end :clap3:

Definitely

WGs didn't have this problem, and to avoid it they just shelved all of TWICE/ITZY

Despite their popularity TWICE wasn't really pushed individually at all (Nayeon especially) despite the public wanting Nayeon/Sana/Tzuyu. Plus along with flag-gate I think they definitely did not want to push Tzuyu and just shelved her indefinitely

I understand not wanting another Suzy situation, but he could easily push multiple TWICE girls at the same time in different avenues....how could he not see how that would have only helped them in the long run?

Nayeon/Sana/Tzuyu as the true IT girls with ads and cfs (the flag gate was something that the gp forgot later and the koreans didnt blame Tzuyu for that iirc)

Dahyun with variety shows

Mina/Sana/Momo in Japan in ads and cfs

Jeongyeon with acting and MC gigs (she was very much active and energetic until 2020, there was plenty of time)

Chaeyoung in some idol development reality shows where she could be involved in songwriting and composition and stuff

Jihyo and Jeongyeon in idol shows where they could showcase their vocals and allrounder skills

...like the possibilities were endless. I mean yeah nowadays they're finally starting to do individual stuff of their own and even doing brand deals & ambassadorships finally, but imagine how much momentum they've lost over the years where they could truly build their individual profiles to some other level. Not a lot of ggs can achieve the success and popularity that TWICE had during their peak, so jyp only had to utilize that momentum and opportunity to also build the individual profiles of the girls outside of the group unit.

At one time Tzuyu was the most promoted but JYPE tone it down since the scandal.

The girls aren't known for being A list vocalists

I love momo but we all saw it the encore.

Thanks God Jihyo and Nayeon take the most lines. :flower3:
Outside of being the first members to go solo there's no hierarchy ??
Mina has bridges, Dubchaeng share rap verses and to some extent momo.

Sana has the killer parts, only jeongyeon isn't treated as a lead.

None of them got promoted until 2020 so it's definitely not a Miss A situation.

I mean YG is struggling without BP imagine JYP promoting twice like BP, they'd focus on their solo career and comeback every two years. None of the Jyp current GG are making money like Twice.

I think you're confusing and mixing two different things. Nayeon/Jihyo getting more lines (for whatever reasons in the studio) is not the same as them being "favored". They aren't and weren't pushed individually outside of the group activities, and that's what we're talking about when we say JYP didnt promote the girls individually. Nayeon is the face/center of the group, she's been so since Sixteen, so in the group's context it's always been pretty much expected that she gets a lot of lines and screentime. And since Jihyo's vocals and all-rounder skills are hard to ignore in the group, she also manages to get the next-most attention in terms of lines. (Again, there is the curious case of Jeongyeon where she's also been an all-rounder much like Jihyo, albeit less of a dancer i guess, but with strong vocals, but she was relegated to be the tomboy of the group who only shows up in the last choruses, but thats a topic i dont wanna go into i'm tired chile). Screentime is debatable because other members like Momo, Sana and Tzuyu have gotten a lot of screentime since the beginning, so that wasn't just limited to Nayeon/Jihyo. But as @Sailor Moon said, this was all within the group/unit's context. When it came to actually building individual profiles outside of the unit like how Suzy got the opportunities, JYP didn't do anything until much much later with Twice members.

I get what y'all are saying, and I do agree that there are practical reasons why Nayeon and Jihyo are so prominent, they're both strong performers and vocally reliable. But even beyond that, there's still an undeniable imbalance in how screen time, lines, and center positions are distributed. Being the center or lead vocalist doesn't necessarily justify that big of a gap, especially in a group of nine where multiple members have strong appeal.

As for the "no hierarchy" point, yes, they all get moments here and there, like Mina getting bridges, or Sana having catchy lines, but those moments don't really compare to the consistent exposure Nayeon and Jihyo get across almost every title track. That's more than just role-based distribution, it feels curated.

And regarding the Miss A comparison, I brought it up because even though Suzy ended up being pushed heavily, Miss A songs were more evenly split in terms of lines and focus early on compared to TWICE. TWICE's dynamic is different, JYPE didn't promote members individually until later, sure, but the favoritism within the songs was there from the beginning. It's not about solos or variety show gigs, I'm talking strictly about how group performances are structured.

I don't think being the face or center automatically justifies the extent of the difference. For example, Dahyun and Chaeyoung consistently get the least lines in title tracks, and Jeongyeon, despite having strong vocals, often gets pushed to the sidelines, especially in recent years. Even if Nayeon and Jihyo weren't individually promoted like Suzy, their presence within TWICE is still far more dominant than the rest. So while it may not be a Suzy-level favoritism outside the group, I think there's definitely an internal hierarchy when it comes to exposure.

In short, Nayeon had crazy amount of exposure compared to the rest within TWICE content alone. Not even Suzy had this amount of exposure within Miss A songs. So yes, JYP still has his favorites.

i dont think it would have been a BP situation considering how much the girls work in a calendar year lol, but I do see your point, the group comebacks would have been delayed for sure. But I'm not talking about every girl getting solo music, i'm talking solo oppportunities in different avenues that could/couldn't include music, just within the realms of entertainment which would help them build their names individually. I doubt that would have affected their ability as a group and how they're selling out stadiums in present day.
