Lowkey this, 4th gen just now hitting the 7th year mark so this timing feels correct. All those groups serving 4.5 tbh 

 

shame that 3rd gen truly had a shortest run of them all due to 2nd gen still thriving and the genre getting more global towards the end of it. The way outside of the big 3 almost all of those groups are gone now though

RV, aespa and TVXQ delivered the best remakes of the show imo

 

BUT...I felt like the arrangement of RV's cover was sometimes doing a little too much, and at the same time I felt like aespa's cover could have switched things up a tiny bit more, their version felt a little too close to the original. But they all sounded really really good.

 

TVXQ was also great because they honored the original song but still gave it their own color without going too crazy.

Mytro getting stuck with the pre-show while Dear Alice gets a spot during the main to debut their garbaj single...

3rd gen was a hard financing era and so it didn't shock me how some of the groups floundered so quickly. 2nd gen made all of their money doing CFs since nobody could make any money from albums and singles. Third Gen seemed to have less opportunity since there were so many groups that were active, and with TWICE, RV and BP hogging the opportunities, there wasn't a ton of space for other groups like there was in gen 2.

 

Gen 4 is so different because album sales have skyrocketed, streaming has given longevity to music and global touring is now viable, even for smaller acts.

I have always considered (G)-IDLE to be fourth gen since they debuted. IDLE and IZ*ONE kickstarted 4th gen.

 

There's not a chance in hell that RIIZE and Baby Monster are fifth gen. You mean to tell me that YG and SM are so unimportant to K-pop that they got skipped for a generation? That BlackPink and NCT were so irrelevant that their successors got skipped? It makes no sense.

I agree with this almost 100%, except for the Aespa critique. I feel like they should have been more similar to the original - the remixed second verse was not as good as the original.

She was incredible. Bada, BoA and TVXQ were the highlights of the show. It's a shame SM doesn't invest in their older artists, but I know they aren't commercially viable.
