Kind of amazing how my first ever k-pop album is still my favourite  even the weakest links on it are 11/10 BOPS.

The performance obviously sucked but the reactions have been way too extreme and protracted. It's embarrassing, jobless behaviour. It's probably a combination of Hybe controlling parts of the media + antis constantly lying in wait with nothing better to do.

I also stan Taeyeon, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande. Britney is not an amazing vocalist, but she has one of the best, most-recognizable tones in pop music ever. Don't try to downplay her to hype up some interchangeable boys

I think everyone was aware how successful TWICE and Wonder Girls were at their peak. The problem is that they both fell off commercially. TWICE's downfall was padded by global market conditions increasing so much that their weakened success still looks huge whereas WG didn't have the same benefit that artists today get with streaming and bulk sales. Unfortunately for TWICE, their image took a hit with the GP from poor vocals and a huge decline in their musical quality so they're not being properly recognized for their iconic status yet. They just need a musical comeback and they'll get their flowers.

SKZ consistently receive praise for their performances from both critics and general audiences, and I could easily drop multiple clips to prove the point 

 

Also, let's not ignore the fact that they just wrapped a 54-date stadium tour - with 0 clips floating around of them being lazy, out of sync, or underwhelming. And that's while they were simultaneously working on their album. The way they still devoured every stage says it all. Honestly, their work ethic is kinda unmatched

That's still an English demo. Your faves would not be able to attempt American success or English collabs if it wasn't for SNSD. 
 

I literally went to the first major Korean concert at Madison Square Garden. I met the girls at the Best Buy Theater and Sunny waved to me at GMA. I was literally one of the fans proving that America was a viable touring market. How are you going to tell me that SNSD never toured America like I didn't pay $2,000 to go see them?

 

I followed K-pop starting with BoA. There was almost no noise. The first big moment here in America was "Gee," which went viral thanks to the saying "good game," or "gg," on World of Warcraft. 2NE1, BB, WG, KARA and 4Minute all had bases here, but SNSD were the biggest. They were the first group to experience buying power here (thank you, Soshified) and we made YesAsia a huge success, which lead to artists getting global distribution. Every leg up that third gen had can be traced back to second gen breaking through.

 

Also, BP wouldn't exist without Girls' Generation. YG was known for ugly-dols and completely changed his model to capitalize off Soshi. You never thought it was weird that Jennie = CL, Rose = Bom, Lisa = Minzy but Jisoo = Seohyun? They didn't even bother to recreate Dara.

 

As far as SKZ, good for their fans for genuinely believing that. But when the music's bad and nobody's singing, they're just energetic dancers. And that's so common and easy for male artists that it's not anything impressive. K-pop is so overrun with dancers who can't sing right now so they don't stand out.

It's ironic because Pannchoa gets paid by HYBE, too. It felt like MYs and Fearnots had just stopped fighting and LSF was rebounding in SK. I hope this doesn't torpedo things.

I dont know why some of you are just so confident in saying these kinda statements where it's so hard for you to recognize that Twice is on a league of its own at this point and they're beyond Melon charts now. I mean yeah it would have been nice to still have that domestic charting power they used to have, but they've traded all that with an increase in touring power and consistency in terms of releases and global reach. And that's the kind of stability that any kpop act would dream of after a decade of activity. Like they've already won. Yeah they might not be widely recognized yet for their iconic status in general spaces in the western media but they're not completely obscure either. The highly successful Lollapalooza set and the kpop demon hunters soundtrack only helped them, and the ongoing massive world tour is taking them even further.  They might be "declining" or slowing down for you in a traditional sense where they're not the nation's gg anymore, but they're not slowing down in the slightest overall. Also let's stop with this narrative of "huge musical decline" or "poor vocals" when it comes to Twice. They've had some of the best Bsides and albums after 2021 exactly when people are claiming they had their "downfall". Plus their live vocals are only getting better with time. I'm sick of the whole group catching flack from these people for "poor vocals" because of 1-2 bad apples.

You guys keep clinging to that 'mAdiSOn sQUarE gArdEn' performance for your dear lives, when in reality it was just a joint SMTown concert, not a standalone SNSD show. And even if it had been, there are at least four K-pop acts today who can sell out actual stadiums in the US - completely dwarfing Madison Square Garden, which you all hold onto so much.

If you're going to credit 2nd gen for the global popularity that 4th gen is benefiting from, then you'd have to credit 1st gen too - since they laid the foundation for 2nd gen in the first place. But when it comes to true global impact, 3rd gen completely overshadowed 2nd gen, bringing in a wave of K-pop fans on a scale never seen before, which 4th gen now benefits from. I'm sorry, but we can't erase the achievements of BTS and BLACKPINK and hand that credit to SNSD, as if SNSD reached even 10% of their success globally. That's just not realistic - it's pure nostalgia talking.

Imagine saying "nobody's singing" when SKZ has more people worldwide singing along to their songs than SNSD ever did. SNSD could only dream of having this kind of global audience, be serious  

Bestie, there's a whole world outside your little bubble. But sure, keep clutching onto that joint SMTOWN concert at Madison Square Garden or that one David Letterman performance I guess

No Koreans are coming close.

XG really deserve the same hype as Katseye, but I feel like they don't have a label or support in America.

They have such a strong identity, and it feels like they'd have to be reformatted into something more accessible to get big success… which I'm not really into.
