Will Chappells 'CR2' pull a GUTS?....

Featured Replies

Do you think Chappell Roan's upcoming second album will be like Olivia's GUTS, with one smash hit (Vampire/Good Luck, Babe!) and kind of get overshadowed by her original album that is still smashing? Also will it be too similar to Midwest Princess like how people criticized GUTS being too similar to SOUR?

Or do you think she's setting herself up for a huge smash second era by keeping GL,B! for the second album and not a deluxe and holding on to The Giver and The Subway (for now)?

I think it will be her peak era cause her career at the moment is where Olivia's was during her debut

Is this even real? SOUR was accused (rightfully) of having too many ballads while GUTS was full of upbeat pop-punk songs. I didn't see this critique at all and it makes no sense tbh :psyduck:

Chappell hasn't had a true blockbuster album like SOUR to begin with, but all signs point to her next album being that rather than a decline.

I dont ser Chappell creating a big fan base like Olivia dos with Her debut album

her second era has chances to pull a sour tbh but if she goes country like these songs i don't think it will be that massive globally

People were already clutching their pearls when GUTS just used a different shade of purple. They started with this to claim it was just a SOUR redo. :WAP:

When will this narrative od Guts underperforming stop? The album did well over 2m in the US alone :deadbanana4:

Just because SOUR was such a huge smash, does not mean Guts flopped. It was impossible to recreate its success.

Sis it won't. SOUR has been outstreaming GUTS for months even while she's touring the latter and, except for vampire, the other 3 GUTS singles have fallen under the SOUR singles and several album tracks. That's not to say GUTS flopped but if there has been any case in recent pop history where stans are justified in saying a sophomore is in the shadow of a debut, it's this one

i hope it's her GUTS (91 on metacritic). good music is more important than multiple hits per era

SOUR was so massive that it was nearly impossible for Olivia to match its success with her sophomore album.

Chappell's album is not on that level so she still has room for "improvement". If she plays her cards right and with the right songs, she can easily surpass her debut.

if it pulls a GUTS that means it would be a huge success.

300k+ first week sales, massive critical acclaim & a $200M tour :celestial5:

Midwest is nowhere close to the success of SOUR so she should have no problem either matching that success again or outdoing it.

Midwest has been handled in a weird way, not like the typical album rollout. Its success came later than usual, thanks partly to Good Luck, Babe exploding, which has got all the attention although it's not part of it. The album didn't have any real chart hits besides maybe HOT TO GO! in a few countries, but also because of GLB/HTG and all the attention she's received lately, it managed to have several streaming hits.

Her next album should perform like a "normal" era, with all the focus on it and its singles (not on some stand-alone single).
