The popstar confidently returns with very little to say.

Like Witness, 143 is a spectacular flop, but it's a strange one—like one of those restaurants that looks nice and has an expensive menu but serves food so mid as to be insulting. It's worse than awful. At least awful is something you can direct your rage at, deriving catharsis in the process.

Aside from some fleeting hellacious decisions, like the jump scare of a warbling child's voice that opens the cloying final track "Wonder," 143 is mostly just…there. The flop cycle is a hard thing to get out of. For one thing, popularity begets popularity. Absent that kind of momentum, a dimmed star needs a once-in-a-career single like "We Belong Together" or "What's Love Got to Do With It" to shake her from her funk. 143 has no such undeniable classic.

So now what? Consider what occurs to one's sense of self when universal praise dries up—that kind of identity-dissolution is woven into 143's chintzy fabric. One day you're ablaze, burning yourself into corneas the world over. Then you're just a smoky outline of what you once were. And then you've disappeared entirely. Just like a firework.

I pretty much agree with this review, it's not getting carried away trying to pretend this is the worst album ever, it's just honest that it's kind of hollow and has nothing to say. Luckily that's precisely the mood I'm in, dumb as hell songs like "Lifetimes" and "I'm His, He's Mine" to bop to.

Given the immense hate for this album people are obviously in a different head space and that's fine.

Just from reading the excerpt that was posted here, I'm more concerned at the fact that the review is using slang terms that you would see the average person on social media use... :biblionny:

It's worse than awful, but still a 4.5/10? Make it make sense please. The review reads like a 2/10.

They whacked her far too much with a lot of excellent one-liners for this high of a score. When is the last time they gave anything less than a 3.0? They're neutered. This means people in that office were rating it higher and it averaged to 4.5, girl...:biblio:

Lifetimes is unlistenable

That's way higher than I thought it would be tbh! Pitchfork just isn't as savage as they used to be.

I am honestly done there is no saving Katy perry. Down votes over and over nobody can actually enjoy anything.

Gaga better bring it next single because the bloodbath is going to be against her.

imagine going off topic like this and crying over damn downvotes :ahh: :toofunny2:

143 being worse than awful is the perfect description of the album (or Katy's last 4 albums if we're being honest) :foxaylove3:

I really want her to do a pop rock vaguely Christian album next. Go truly back to basics, a mix of her actual Christian rock origins and One of the Boys. Be the 2020s Amy Grant. No one else is doing that, at least it would stand out, and if it flops at least it flops with Dignity_HilaryDuff.rar
