Personally love Midnights more but 1989 is also a really great album. I even have a real 1989 (Taylor'd Version) Crystal Sky Blue CD

(not ranking **** cuz i can't do that mission impossible but 'Suburban Legends' stays clearing)

The strength of 3AM cannot outweight the atrocities of Karma or Vigilante ****. The album with Style takes it easily

It's very clear that with a song by song comparison, I prefer Midnights over 1989 (and it's very much reflected by my listening habits) with the 3AM doing the heavy lifting.

 

However, as a complete body of work, 1989 is objectively more robust. There was a real cohesiveness and goal with 1989 that is not present with Midnights. So basically, Midnights has better songs, but the songs on 1989 work better together than those on Midnights.

1989 OG always

Midnights tried to be a "dark 1989" and it kinda flopped that way. It has some great highs (Maroon, YOYOK, Karma, and most of the tracks on 3am) but the standard feels very Lofi beats and chill. The concept is also extremely weak. TTPD was definitely an improvement from that. 1989 (OG) is nothing short of a classic, cohesive, no skip album. 

Clean, Style, Wildest Dreams, Blank Space and New Romantics alone destroy Midnights
